Daniela Denby-Ashe (born 9 August 1978) is an English actress best known for playing Sarah Hills in the soap opera EastEnders, Margaret Hale in the period drama North and South, and Janey Harper in the sitcom My Family.

Lorraine Donnegan appeared in the drama "Waterloo Road" before playing a different role, "Jem Allen," in one episode a few years ago. Evie, her one-year-old daughter, has just had one child.

Early life

Denby-Ashe was born in North West London on August 9, 1978, the daughter of Polish immigrants; her father's name was Miroslaw Pszkit. Both parents decided to adopt a more British-sounding surname before her parents' marriage, so they each selected a surname from the telephone directory and hyphenated them. Denby-Ashe is fluent in English, Polish, and French, inheriting the former from her grandmother, who was born in France until World War II broke out. She began studying ballet at the age of two and tap at a later age; from ten to sixteen, she attended many drama schools, including the Corona Academy.

Career

Denby-Ashe first met with the children's film Nursery Rhymes 2 from Pickwick Video. She appeared in numerous television commercials as a child actor, which led to child's drama, including Kevin & Co., as well as Channel 4's Desmond's. Denby-Ashe appeared on Absolutely Fabulous, alongside Jennifer Saunders and Julia Sawalha briefly. Sarah Hills' debut in 1995 in the BBC soap opera EastEnders was her biggest break. She appeared in this role until 1999.

Janey Harper appeared in BBC sitcom My Family later this year. Daniela took a break from My Family for the fourth season in 2003, but she reprised her role in 2004. The eleventh and final series on BBC One premiered on June 2011.

Margaret Hale appeared in the BBC television drama version of Elizabeth Gaskell's North & South in 2005, and in the science fiction television series Torchwood episode Greeks Bearing Gifts appeared by Margaret Hale in 2005. Office Gossip, Rescue Me, Is Harry on the Boat, and The Afternoon Play are among her other television appearances. She appeared in Ring Around the Bath, a Radio 4 comedy troupe, from 2003.

In 2007, she appeared as Robert Maxwell's secretary in Maxwell, a BBC drama about his life.

She appeared in BBC Four's supernatural drama series Crooked House in December 2008 and in October 2010 she appeared in an episode of the ITV detective drama Midsomer Murders. Jem Allen, a deceitful supply tutor, appeared in the fourth series of the BBC drama Waterloo Road in April 2009. Lorraine Donegan, a new regular character, returned to the drama in April 2012. The character then appeared in the eighth series on a regular basis.

In 2019, she appeared in two episodes of the BBC sitcom Mum.
