Dana Dane Career

Career

Dana Dane's career began as part of the Kangol Crew, alongside fellow rapper Slick Rick, to whom he sounded very similar, although Slick Rick's English lilt was authentic, while Dana Dane's was an affectation. Dana Dane appeared on Slick Rick's 1988 hit "Teenage Love" in the video. He began attending high school and joined Profile Records in 1985.

Dana Dane With Fame, Dana Dane's debut album, debuted at #46 on the Billboard chart and was certified gold. "Nightmares" was his debut single. "Cinderfella Dane," which peaked at number one on Billboard magazine's R&B charts in 1987, was his biggest success in the United States. Cheryl Green of Queens, NY, sang backup. He was one of Profile Records' main artists, but he appeared on Rap-A-Lot Records for a brief period of time but did not publish anything on that label. On Maverick Records, he released Rollin' Wit Dana Dane in 1995.

In the late 1980s and early 1990s, Dane ran a clothing store in New York City. He appeared on-air for Sirius/XM Satellite Radio on the iconic hip-hop channel LL Cool J's Rock the Bells radio (formerly BackSpin).

In the 2002 film Brown Sugar, he appears as himself.

Numbers, his first book, was published in 2009 (One World/Ballantine/Random House).
