DL Hughley Life

Darryl Lynn Hughley (born March 6, 1963) is an American actor, political commentator, radio host, and stand-up comedian.

Hughley is best known as the original host of BET's ComicView from 1992-1993, the anonymous character on ABC/UPN's comedy "The Hughleys," as well as one of the original "Big Four" comedians in The Original Kings of Comedy.

In addition, he has been the host of CNN's D. L. Hughley Breaks the News, a reporter for The Jay Leno Show on NBC, and a local radio personality and interviewer in New York City.

In early 2013, D.L. was officially listed as a member of the United Kingdom. Hughley appeared on Dancing with the Stars in 9th place.

Early life

Hughley was born in Portsmouth, Virginia, the son of Audrey and Charles Hughley, a Delta Air Lines maintenance man. He is the second of four children. Hughley grew up in South Central Los Angeles, but remained in Portsmouth for only two months before his family moved. Hughley's teen years were tense as he became a member of the Bloods' notorious street gang and was suspended from San Pedro High School. However, he eventually returned to gang life, obtained his GED, and started working with the Los Angeles Times.

Personal life

Ryan and Tyler, along with his partner, LaDonna, have two children, as well as Kyle. Hughley has discussed his son's Asperger's syndrome on several occasions.

Hughley appeared on Angela Yee's Lipservice podcast on November 9, 2017, in which he admitted to having an affair early in his marriage and career. His mistress had become pregnant and had a son; the baby was shaken to death by the infant's mother's boyfriend.

Hughley died while playing at a Nashville, Tennessee, pubication was blamed for the injury. He was positive for COVID-19 on subsequent tests.

On July 30, 2020, Hughley was initiated as an honorary member of Omega Psi Phi fraternity.

Hughley appeared on BET from 1992 to 1993, and was the first host of ComicView, the BET's stand-up comedy show. He appeared in the third season of Fresh Prince of Bel Air as Will's friend Keith Campbell, a Philadelphia comedian. He wrote, produced, and starred in The Hughleys, based on his true-life experiences of life with his African-American family in a wealthy neighborhood from 1998 to 2002. He launched "D.L.," a stand-up comedy collection released in 2005. Hughley: Notes From The GED Section" and had a short-lived talk show on Comedy Central called Weekends at the D.L. He is a member of The Original Kings of Comedy and has appeared on Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip and on NBC's Scrubs as Turk's brother. He appeared at the BET Awards in 2008. Bernie Mac, one of his closest friends and fellow King of Comedy, died at the funeral, where he gave a tearful address during the eulogy.

Hughley served as ABC's special guest moderator for one day in June 2010.

Hughley appeared on TBS' Glory Daze and as a guest host on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire.

Hughley's debut book, I Want You to Shut the F*** Up: How the Audacity of Dopes Is Ruining America, by Michael Malice, was published on July 31, 2012 by Crown Archetype Press.

Hughley appeared on Dancing with the Stars for season 16. He was partnered with two-time champion Cheryl Burke.

He is now host of The D.L. Talk Show. Hughley Show, which premiered on TV One on March 18, 2019.

Hughley was chosen to host and write a comedic news show on CNN on Sunday, October 25, 2008, 0 p.m. EDT on CNN. Hughley would be leaving the show on March 9, 2009, as a result of a desire to work in Los Angeles and be closer to his family, according to CNN. As a Los Angeles-based contributor for CNN, he plans to continue his CNN work as a Los Angeles-based reporter for the network.

Hughley has also worked as an on-air radio presenter. The D.L. published a letter on July 20, 2009. The Hughley Morning Show premiered on WRKS (now WEPN), more widely known as 98.7 Kiss FM, an urban adult contemporary station in New York City at the time. Jacque Reid, a former BET news reporter, was among his co-hosts. Hughley was put in direct competition with his colleague "King of Comedy" Steve Harvey, whose nationally syndicated Steve Harvey Show airs in New York on WBLS (Kiss FM's longtime rival). Hughley's show was supposed to be syndication as well, but a disagreement regarding his compensation erupted between Kiss FM's parent company and the prospective syndication firm. Kiss FM pulled the show from its schedule in August 2010, and Hughley moved on to other ventures.

REACH Media, the syndicator established by Tom Joyner, reported that a deal with D.L. had been signed on August 12, 2013. The D.L., a nationally syndicated afternoon drive show, will host The D.L., a new nationally syndicated afternoon drive. Cumulus Media Networks has a Hughley show on DVD.
