Culolethu Zulu (born in Eshowe, Kwazulu Natal) and Culoe De Song, respectively known as Culoe De Song, is a South African producer, remixer, and DJ.

"Culo" or "Culoe" is his IsiZulu name, meaning "our song"; not to be pronounced like "colo" or "song"; the word is pronounced with a clicking "C" rather than "cool"; in the Spanish word "culo" meaning "cool."

In 2009, he released A Giant Leap, his first album.

He released his album Elevation in 2011 with the support of Kindnes Khupe, a Zimbabwean-born tribal mix DJ.

Exodus (2013) was released later. Culoe De Song has recently been named the Best Male Artist for the 2014 Metro FM Awards for his album Exodus, which was included on Rolling Stone's (South Africa) Top 500 Albums of 2013.

He has also participated in the 2008 Red Bull Music Academy in Barcelona, Spain.

Early life and career

Louie Vega and Rocco began his music career in South Africa early 2007, alongside local bands like Black Coffee and international visitors. Culoe De Song began exploring production after his days as a DJ, where he collaborated with Black Coffee on the track "100 Zulu Warriors," which featured the tunes tribal aural assault on his second album Have Another One. Culoe De Song later joined Black Coffee's label Soulistic Music, and was selected as one of the international participants in the 2008 Red Bull Music Academy in Barcelona, Spain. He was named one of the academy's youngest students. Culoe De Song performed at Club Macerana and Fellini in Barcelona and was later invited to perform at Sonar in Spain. Culoe De Song, a German artist, debuts the EP The Bright Forest on this German record label Innervisions in 2009. This debut introduced him to a larger European audience and electronic scene.

Culoe De Song began touring internationally while also releasing his debut album, A Giant Leap, which went gold. The album received multiple accolades for the 2010 South African Music Awards, the Namibian Museke Awards, and the 2010 Metro FM Awards. Elevation, his second album, was released in 2011, where he worked with France's deep house DJ and producer Rocco as well as local South African artists such as Goldfish and funk dub four piece 340 million.

Mule Musiq and German Label Innervisions released several singles based on his Afrocentric rhythms and subtle digital textures. Culoe De Song continues to perform as a DJ at corporate functions, bars, and international music festivals.

The Smirnoff Night Life Exchange global tour includes performances in So Paulo, Brazil, Amsterdam Dance Festival, and the Winter Music Conference in Miami, SolarFest (Spain), Weather (France), Festival Week-end au bord de l'eau (Switzerland), and local South African festivals Oppikoppi, Rocking the Daisies, and JnB Start a Party are among the notable festivals held in Miami.
