How Liverpool built a dream team of academy stars: Carabao Cup glory with the kids last season came amid astute raids on rivals - including Chelsea - forced by Brexit

INSIDE THE LIVERPOOL CAMP - LEWIS STEELE: There is a framed picture on the walls of Liverpool's training base in Kirkby which hangs purposefully in the areas frequented by academy stars. Taken just before the turn of the millennium, the photograph acts as the ultimate inspiration for the stars of tomorrow. Squinting down the camera in the snap were seven homegrown players: Michael Owen, Robbie Fowler, Steve McManaman, David Thompson, Dominic Matteo, Jamie Carragher and, then a fresh-faced teenager, Steven Gerrard. Earlier this year, Liverpool's media team sensed an opportunity to recreate a similar image with new protagonists. After the Reds won the Carabao Cup with a youthful team at Wembley, 11 of the latest academy success stories posed with the final trophy of the Jurgen Klopp era. Trent Alexander-Arnold in a knee-brace - he did not play that day - is the best known, but also present were Jarell Quansah, Conor Bradley, Jayden Danns, Stefan Bajcetic and Trey Nyoni to name just five. Who knows how iconic that image may one day be.
LISTEN to It's All Kicking Off!: What's the bigger picture behind Trent Alexander-Arnold's bench misery at Anfield?

Liverpool ensured Arne Slot won his first Premier League game at Anfield on Sunday as they beat Brentford 2-0. However, the Reds' comfortable victory was slightly marred by Trent Alexander-Arnold 's unhappy reaction to being substituted in the second half. The defender was replaced by Conor Bradley in the 72nd minute but cut a dejected and gloomy figure while he sat on the bench for rest of the match. The controversy comes with Alexander-Arnold in the final year of his Liverpool contract and having not yet made any progress with the club regarding an extension.
Liverpool star Conor Bradley insists he's ready to 'make this year even better' under new boss Arne Slot after breaking into the Reds first team last season

LEWIS STEELE: A breakthrough season felt surreal at times for young Northern Irish full back Conor Bradley - but now the Liverpool youngster says it has sunk in and he feels ready to make this year even better. The 21-year-old spent the 2022-23 season out on loan at League One side Bolton but was promoted to Jurgen Klopp's first team and, after a back injury ruled him out of the first half of the campaign, he had a glittering few months in the limelight. Bradley starred in the Carabao Cup triumph and played 28 times in total, scoring his first goal at Anfield and earning rave reviews all around the country. At one point, there were even calls from some fans for him to start ahead of Trent Alexander-Arnold.
