Harvey Elliott Career

Club career

Elliott was recruited by Fulham's academy at U-18 level. He made his Fulham debut in the EFL Cup Third Round on September 25th as an 81st-minute substitute for Floyd Ayité in a 3–1 victory. He had been attending Coombe Boys' School in New Malden, Greater London, earlier this day, and he was back to school the next morning. He was the club's first-team player and the youngest to ever participate in the league at 15 years and 174 days.

Elliott made his Premier League debut on May 4th, arriving as an 88th-minute replacement for André-Frank Zambo Anguissa in a 1–0 loss to Wolverhampton Wanderers. He became the youngest Premier League player at the time at 16 years and 30 days, beating the then record set in 2007 by fellow Fulham player Matthew Briggs.

Elliott signed for Liverpool, a Premier League player, on July 28th, 2019 for an undisclosed fee. In that season's EFL Cup match against Milton Keynes Dons, he made his club debut on September 25th. He became the club's youngest player to begin a match and the second-youngest to compete in a competitive fixture behind Jerome Sinclair at 16 years and 174 days. Elliott became the youngest player to begin a match at Liverpool's home ground, Anfield, at the age of 16 years and 209 days in the following month, during the team's 5–4 penalty shoot-out (after an extra time) win over Arsenal in the next round of the tournament. He made his Premier League debut for Liverpool on January 2nd, 2020, replacing Mohamed Salah one minute before the final whistle in a 2–0 home victory over Sheffield United.

Elliott signed his first professional deal with Liverpool on July 6, 2020. Liverpool was ordered to compensate Fulham for Elliott's transfer on February 10, 2021 by the independent Professional Football Compensation Committee, which was published on February 10th. Liverpool reported the fee as £1.5 million, plus £2.8 million in bonuses. The fee was a record for a sixteen-year-old boy.

Elliott signed with Blackburn Rovers in October 2020 on a season-long loan. In Blackburn's 3–1 away loss to Watford on October 21, he made his league debut. In the club's 4–0 home win over Coventry City on October 24, he scored his first goal for the club.

Elliott was shortlisted for the EFL Young Player of the Season award in April 2021, which was eventually won by Reading player Michael Olise. He had 7 goals and 11 assists in the 2020–21 season. He was also named Blackburn's Goal of the Season for his tackle against Millwall in December 2020. After the Championship season ended in May 2021, he returned to Liverpool.

Elliott signed a new long-term deal with Liverpool on July 9, 2021. In a 2–0 victory over Burnley on Sunday, he made his full Premier League debut for Liverpool, beginning and playing the whole match. Elliott dislocated his ankle in a match against Leeds United defender Pascal Struijk on September 12 in a 3–0 away league victory. Liverpool announced that he would require surgery after the injury. Elliott underwent successful surgery in London on September 14th, with the club remaining optimistic that he would return before the 2021–22 season comes to an end.

Elliott was back in the Liverpool squad on Sunday for his fourth round FA Cup match against Cardiff City, starting as a replacement in the 58th minute and scoring his first Liverpool goal in a 3–1 victory.

He made his Champions League debut on February 16, 2022, when he was selected in the starting lineup for a Round of 16 games against Inter Milan's Italian giants Inter Milan. He played 60 minutes before being replaced by Naby Keta.

In the 79th minute of the 2022 EFL Cup Final for captain Jordan Henderson, he played the remaining minutes of the game, including the entirety of extra time. Elliott converted his team's 9th goal in the game's resultant shootout, which they lost 11–10 to lift their first EFL Cup in ten years.

In Liverpool's 9-0 victory over AFC Bournemouth on Saturday, he scored his first Premier League goal in 2022. He joined the first team, deputising for Jordan Henderson in the captain's absence, and received praise for his "extraordinary" performance against Newcastle United. In a 7–1 victory over Rangers on October 12, 2022, he scored his first Champions League goal and was the first time they had conceded seven goals at Ibrox.

But to the surprise of many around the stadium, Gravenberch's fine effort hurtled into the net, handing Liverpool the lead in their must-win game in the capital. Footage showed Van Dijk raising his arms aloft as Gravenberch was teed up by Elliott, showcasing his confidence his Holland team-mate would fire home.

LEWIS STEELE AT CRAVEN COTTAGE: Harvey Elliott should get a big slice of credit for Trent Alexander-Arnold's sublime free-kick during Liverpool's win over Fulham after confusing the home side's defensive wall, according to boss Jurgen Klopp. Alexander-Arnold scored a cracking strike to open the scoring for Liverpool, before Timothy Castagne equalised shortly before half-time. The Reds ended a four-game wait for an open-play goal as Ryan Gravenberch and Diogo Jota secured the win after the break. And Klopp says Elliott put doubt into the minds of Fulham's defenders when he tried to poke a set-piece under the wall minutes before Alexander-Arnold's goal.
