Richard Clay Travis (born April 6, 1979) is an American sports journalist, writer, and television analyst, as well as the morning show host for nationwide Fox Sports Radio from 6-9 a.m. Lock It In is a daily sports betting show on FS1.

Early life

Travis graduated from Martin Luther King Magnet at Pearl High School in Nashville in 1997. He graduated from George Washington University in Washington, D.C., and then the Vanderbilt University Law School in Nashville.

Personal life

Career

Travis began his work as a prosecutor in the Virgin Islands and Tennessee. In late 2004, he attracted media attention thanks to his personal blog that he wrote while living in the Virgin Islands of the United States. Travis, a Tennessee Titans fan, was unable to get NFL Sunday Ticket to watch NFL games in the islands and went on a "pudding strike," consuming only pudding every day for 50 days with the intention of compel DirecTV to carry the box in the Virgin Islands. The attempt was unsuccessful, but he blogged about the experience and gained media attention.

Travis began writing for CBS Sports in September 2005, though not paid for the first year. Travis renounced his courtwork for good in 2006. Travis began working on Dixieland Delight, where he visited the football stadiums of the 12 then-current members of the Southeastern Conference later while writing for CBS. Travis began at CBS as a writer and editor at Deadspin, then a national columnist at FanHouse.

Travis founded Outkickthecoverage.com in 2011, after FanHouse was incorporated into Sporting News in 2011. The website later became one of the most popular college football sites on the internet. He continued to grow his reputation for occasional "contrarian" views while working there.

Travis worked at D1 Sports Training in 2008 as a football prospect preparing for the NFL Draft. Rough Draft was his first film script about his journey.

In 2010, The Nashville Scene named Travis "Best Sports Radio Host We Love To Hate" as the publication's "Best of Nashville" issue. Brent Dougherty and Blaine Bishop co-hosting 3HL, a sports radio talk show on Nashville's 104.5 The Zone. On NBC Sports, he also hosted a national sports radio show.

Travis resigned from 3HL in 2014 and Fox Sports recruited him for its weekly college football Saturday pre-game show. In 2015, he signed a Fox Sports endorsement to license his entire sports media brand under Fox Sports, as well as his website Outkick the Coverage, which was folded into Fox Sports' website. In 2016, he founded a national television show, launched a Periscope and Facebook show, and launched a daily Outkick the Show broadcast, and launched a nationwide radio show with Fox Sports Radio.

Travis was kicked out by DeMarcus Cousins for a 2010 prediction that Cousins would be arrested within five years. Travis said in reaction that he would contribute to a charity of Cousins' choice.

In 2010, Travis began a daily sports radio show on Nashville's 104.5 The Zone, 3HL. In 2016, after leaving 3HL, he began the “Outkick the Coverage” radio show for Fox Sports Radio national mornings from 6-9 a.t. Travis was on show in May 2021 when it was announced that Travis and Buck Sexton would take over Rush Limbaugh's time slot on Premiere Networks. On June 21, 2021, the show debuted on June 21, 2021.
