Clare Grogan Life

Claire Patricia Grogan (born 17 March 1962), known professionally as Clare Grogan or sometimes as C. P. Grogan, is a Scottish actress and singer.

She is best known as the lead singer of the 1980s new wave music group Altered Images and for supporting roles in the 1981 film Gregory's Girl and the science fiction sitcom Red Dwarf as the first incarnation of Kristine Kochanski.

Early life

Born in Glasgow, Grogan and her two sisters all attended the Notre Dame Convent School.

Aged 17, while dancing at the Glasgow College of Technology, a fight broke out nearby between several patrons. Grogan attempted to head away from the violence but was injured by thrown broken glass, causing a deep facial wound and prominent scar on the left side of her face. Grogan states that her parents still find it hard to read about the incident. She began filming Gregory's Girl just three months after the incident. In 1998, while she was working in theatre at Watford, it was discovered part of the glass was still in the facial tissue and had to be surgically removed.

Personal life

Grogan married bandmate Stephen Lironi in Glasgow in 1994. The couple live in Haringey in north London, and in 2005 they adopted a daughter, Ellie.

Clare Grogan Career

Acting career

Claire Grogan, the other Claire Grogan, was actually obliged to appear as "C. P. Grogan" because she was already a member of Equity (the other Claire Grogan went on to become a photographer). The i would be deleted from her first name later.

In 1987, Grogan appeared in Rita in Educating Rita at the Dundee Repertory Theatre.

In 1996, she worked as a fitness instructor on the Edinburgh Fringe, the play Lady Macbeth Firmed My Buttocks.

When working as a waitress at Glasgow's Spaghetti Factory restaurant, Bill Forsyth discovered her. Susan was a child actor in Gregory's Girl, 1981. The designers had reservations about her facial scarring, but Forsyth refused to recast the role, and Grogan was largely in character. Makeup artists covered Grogan's scarring with Derma wax when they were filming close.

Charlotte was a member of Forsyth's Comfort and Joy in 1984. In 1985, she was the receptionist in Blott on the Landscape's BBC television version. In 1986, Grogan appeared in the second episode of the acclaimed The Monocled Mutineer. Kristine Kochanski, Dave Lister's soon-to-be-love interest, appeared in series 1, 2, 3, and 6 of the television show Red Dwarf, a regular actress. However, she was deemed too old for the role by Series 7 despite being younger than most of her male counterparts, and Chlo Annett was recalled. In a barely revealed parody of Sinéad O'Connor and in EastEnders as Ian Beale's love interest, Ros Thorne (1997–1998), Grogan appeared in Father Ted (episode "Rock-a-Hula Ted"), as he briefly portrayed his father Ted (Rock-a-Hula Ted).

In 1992, Grogan appeared as Mary Catto in Taggart's series 8 episode 21 (again credited as C.P.). Grogan is a pundit.

Maggie was a part of Jilting Joe, a 1998 short film about an eye-surgeon, made in Doctors in 2002, and performed another Edinburgh Fringe play Forbidden in 2004. Lily, a young Jewish officer married to a WW2 Nazi soldier but falling in love with a young Jewish woman, became Lily.

Sandra Reeves, a control-freak office manager, was played by Fraser in the film The Penalty King portrayed Cathy in an episode of Sea of Souls and May, Danny's mother, in the Scottish sit-com Legit. She appeared in the film "I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)" starring Peter Kay and Matt Lucas, shot for Comic Relief's Red Nose Day 2007, as well as two TV films Wedding Belles and Forrest.

Shelley, mother of Mini McGuinness, appeared in the Scottish gangster film The Wee Guys in 2011, she appeared in the 2011 TV series Skins as Shelley, mother of Mini McGuinness, and played Jenny Ferris.

Myriam appeared in the 2017 film Delirium, which was entirely shot at Royal Holloway, University of London.

Music career

Grogan began her singing career as the lead singer of Altered Images, originally a five-piece band that included Johnny McElhone (later of Scottish rock band Texas), whom she encountered while studying for her Highers exams. With the departure of two members and the arrival of Stephen Lironi, who played both guitar and drums, it became a four-person band. Several hits in the early 1980s included "Happy Birthday," "Don't Talk to Me About Love," "I Could Be Happy," and "See Those Eyes." After the success of their third album, Bite (1983), the group disbanded up.

Grogan appeared in The Bluebells' "Young at Heart" in 1984.

Grogan later attempted to work alone, but her album Trash Mad was never released after her single "Love Bomb" failed to chart success in 1987. Grogan and Lironi formed Universal Love School in 1989, a string of gigs around the UK. However, it was short-lived and had no hit singles. On The 6ths' album Hyacinths and Thistles, she performed vocals on the album "Night Falls Like a Grand Piano." For the Frankie Miller tribute album, she produced a version of "Angels with Dirty Faces." On The Ultimate Celtic Album, the song "Her Hooped Dream" appears.

Grogan appeared on the Here and Now Tour in 2002 as 'Altered Images,' a tribute to 1980s well-known artists. In 2005, 2008, and 2009, she appeared on similar tours. In the 2011 series of Let's Dance for Comic Relief, she appeared with Chesney Hawkes, Toyah Willcox, and Limahl as 'The 80s Supergroup.'

Grogan also covers for radio presenters on BBC 6 Music.

Grogan appeared in Series 2, Episode 2 of John Shuttleworth's Lounge Music on BBC Radio 4, on November 27, 2016.

Clare Grogan is the inspiration for Spandau Ballet's "true" song.

Grogan began hosting shows on Absolute Radio 80s from 11 September 2017, from Monday to Thursday 8-9 p.m., and Sundays 7-9 p.m.

Grogan toured with Sharleen Spiteri on the album "Look What You've Done," the tenth album by Johnny McElhone's band Texas.

ADRIAN THRILLS: The prophets of rock 'n' roll's doom rises a smidgeon (a little bit)

www.dailymail.co.uk, August 26, 2022
ADRIAN THRILLS: Matt Bellamy, a musician whose songs are full of conspiracy theories and visions of global doom and gloom, could be forgiven for saying, 'I told you so' after the past couple of years. A pandemic, war in Europe, biblical floods, and epic drought characterized the era. . . yes, our brave new world has often resembled something from his band Muse's album. But seeing some of Bellamy's worst nightmares come true, they must have given the three from Teignmouth in Devon food some thought as they considered their ninth album.
