Christian Eigner Life

Depeche Mode () is an English electronic music group formed in Basildon, Essex, 1980.

The team now features Dave Gahan (lead vocals and co-songwriting), Martin Gore (keyboards, guitar, co-lead vocals, and principal songwriting), and Andy Fletcher (keyboards). In 1981, Depeche Mode released their debut album Speak & Spell, the band's first album on the British new wave circuit.

Vince Clarke, a founding member, was left after the album's debut; they released A Broken Frame as a trio.

Gore was the main songwriter, and Alan Wilder replaced Clarke in 1982, establishing a lineup that continued for 13 years. Black Celebration and Music for the Masses, the band's last albums of the 1980s, established them as a major force in the contemporary music scene.

The band's concert at the Pasadena Rose Bowl in June 1988, where they attracted a crowd in excess of 60,000 people.

Violator, the first international mainstream success, was introduced in early 1990.

Songs of Faith and Devotion, released in 1993, was also a success, but the band suffered internally during recording and touring, which resulted in Wilder's departure in 1995. Depeche Mode has had 54 songs on the UK Singles Chart and 17 top ten albums in the UK charts, and they have sold more than 100 million albums around the world.

The band was included in the "50 Bands That Changed the World" list. "The American migrant has a distinctive voice."

On VH1's "100 Greatest Artists of All Time," Depeche Mode also ranks number 98.

Depeche Mode was named by Billboard in December 2016 as the country's 10th most popular dance club performer of all time.
