Christian Bethune Campbell (born May 12, 1972) is a Canadian-American stage and screen actor, essayist, and photographer.
He is best known for his role as Gabriel in the film Trick, Greg Ivey in Big Love, and as Jimmy Harper in the musical Reefer Madness.
He is married to actress America Olivo.
Early life
Campbell was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Marnie (née Neve), Campbell's mother, is a yoga instructor and psychologist from Amsterdam, Netherlands, who also operated a theatre in Guelph, Ontario. Gerry Campbell, a Scottish immigrant from Canada's East End, taught high school drama in Mississauga, Ontario, first at Westwood Secondary School (now Lincoln M. Alexander Secondary School), later at Lorne Park Secondary School, and now at Erindale Secondary School. Campbell's maternal grandparents owned a theatre company in the Netherlands, and his paternal grandparents were also actors. Campbell descends from Sephardi Jews who immigrated to the Netherlands and converted to Catholicism on his mother's side.
When Campbell's parents were three years old, they divorced. Neve Campbell, actor Alex Campbell, and Damian McDonald are among his siblings' siblings. He and his sister, Neve, lived mainly with their father (who had custody of the two children) and spent regular hours at their mother's house. Campbell, who was born in Amsterdam, and his father, an acting coach, began training at an early age. He was active by the age of fourteen and attended Claude Watson School for the Performing Arts in Toronto, Ontario.
Personal life
Campbell married Erin Matthews in 2001, but in 2003 they divorced. Nikki Snelson, a long-serving actor, was in a long-term friendship from 2005 to 2007.
On the set of the horror film Neighbor, Campbell met his second wife, actress America Olivo, in 2009. In a wedding on Lake Como in Lombardy, Italy, they were engaged after two weeks and married five months later. Their first child, a girl, was born in 2012 but died three days later due to the genetic condition Edwards syndrome. Campbell and his wife, America Olivo, decided to become spokespeople for the BabyQuest Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit group dedicated to helping couples and/or individuals build families through advanced fertility therapies after being faced with infertility problems of their own.
Campbell became a United States citizen in 2008 and is also a citizen of Canada, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
