Chris Murphy Life

Christopher Scott Murphy (born August 3, 1973) is an American politician who has served as the junior United States Senator from Connecticut since 2013.

He previously served in the United States House of Representatives, representing Connecticut's 5th congressional district from 2007 to 2013.

Murphy served in both chambers of the Connecticut General Assembly (1999–2003) and the Connecticut Senate (2003–07), before being elected to Congress. Murphy ran for the Senate in 2012 after long-serving incumbent Joe Lieberman declared in January 2011 that he would retire from politics rather than seeking a fifth term in office.

In the Democratic primary, he overthrew Connecticut secretary of state Susan Bysiewicz, then defeated Republican nominee Linda McMahon for the open seat in the general election.

Murphy, who was 39 years old at the time, was the youngest senator of the 113th Congress.

Tom Cotton, a Democrat from Arkansas, became Arkansas' youngest senator after being elected at age 37 and surpassed Murphy as the youngest incumbent senator two years later.

Personal life

In August 2007, Murphy and his wife Catherine (née Holahan) married. They have two sons. Murphy, who was raised as a Congregationalist, says he is "not a regular churchgoer these days," but he claims he is "not a regular attender these days, in part due to children. "In part because of a jammed schedule"

Democrats fume as Joe Biden plans to sign executive order which will uproot the asylum system and shut the border

www.dailymail.co.uk, June 4, 2024
Congressional Democrats are triggered by Joe Biden 's planned executive order to alter asylum claims for migrants who enter U.S. illegally, with some saying it won't work. Around 2 p.m. on Tuesday President Joe Biden is expected to announce a new executive action to limit the number of illegal migrants who can claim asylum once a threshold of unlawful crossers has been reached. The White House and some lawmakers have said it would help him 'shutdown the border,' but that is far from true, it really just enables the president to revoke illegal immigrants' ability to claim asylum, which generally kicks-off a years-long process where the validity of their asylum claim is hash out in immigration courts. Now, even Democrats are admitting that the expected plan to crack down on illegal immigration, months before an election, has major flaws. 'So it's not terribly likely that anything Biden is talking about doing can work without additional resources,' Sen. Chris Murphy, D-Conn., one of the architects of this year's failed bipartisan border bill said on the president's planned action before casting blame on the GOP.
