Christopher Patrick "Chris" Gore (born September 5, 1965) is an American speaker and writer on the topic of independent film.
Life and career
Gore was born in Big Rapids, Michigan. Gore, the editor and the maker of Film Threat magazine, a magazine dedicated to reporting independent and underground cinema that began in 1985. From 1993 to 1995, he served as the executive editor of Computer Player Magazine. He made his first television appearances on the Jones Computer Network, the network television precursor to ZDTV, during this period as an editor and commentator on the state of video games and society.
Gore appeared on the G4 television show Attack of the Show and had also produced a film-based segment based on the weekly FX film The X Show. He served as the host and moderator of The New Movie Show with Chris Gore, which was also on FX in 2000, where a panel mix of critics and celebrity guests reviewed movies. In an August 2010 episode of Attack of the Show on the murder of Chris Gore, G4 based a recurring gag, bringing up three potential murderers, boosting the belief that his films are bad and that everybody wants to kill him. Gore attended Kimball High School in Royal Oak, Michigan (now renamed Royal Oak High School after Dondero High School's closing).
Gore co-wrote and produced the independent parody film My Big Fat Independent Movie, a parody film starring Pauly Shore that was a parody of other indie films starring Pauly Shore. His books include The 50 Greatest Movies Never Made, The Ultimate Film Festival Survival Guide, and The Complete DVD Book: Planning, Producing, and Marketing Your Independent Film on DVD. Gore was also co-created Sci-Fi Universe magazine and created the now-defunct Wild Cartoon Kingdom magazine. Following his dismissal of Nickelodeon from The Ren & Stimpy Show in September 1992, John Kricfalusi under the pen name "Thomas Paine" to anonymously criticize Nickelodeon. Gore decided to host Hollywood on the Rocks, a reality talk show produced by Mini Movie Channel and distributed by Ovation TV in 2009.
In 2016, Gore was featured in the Star Wars documentary film The Prequel Strike Back: A Fan's Journey.
