Charles "Charlie" Brenneman (born February 9, 1981) is a former American mixed martial artist who competed in the Ultimate Fighting Championship in their Lightweight division.

He was also the winner of the first season of the television show Pros vs Joes.

Fighting career

Brenneman held an unbeaten record during his amateur career. He converted quickly, debuting against Marcello Olivera on July 28, 2007. Brenneman maintained his 5–0 record at the professional level through early 2008, winning by a split-decision over Drew Puzon at the ShoXC event on January 25, 2008.

Brenneman sustained a kick to the head that shattered his left orbital and caused him to do emergency surgery to repair the injury during sparring session with one-time UFC fighter Chris Liguori. Vertical and lateral plates were inserted into his face, and he soon regained sight in his left eye. Brenneman returned to action against John Howard on September 12, 2008, but he suffered his first loss of his career. Brenneman vowed to enter the AMA Fight Club and went on to win his next six fights before being offered a contract with the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).

Brenneman made his UFC debut against Jason High, who was defeated by a unanimous vote (30–27, 29–28).

Brenneman lost by TKO in the second round of his second round to Johny Hendricks in his next fight.

On January 22, 2011, Brenneman met Amilcar Alves at UFC Fight Night 23. He was voted unanimously in the fight.

Brenneman was supposed to face T.J. On Versus 4, 2011, Grant was granted on June 26, 2011, but he had to cancel due to sickness and the match was called off. However, Nate Marquardt did not have medical clearance and had to pull out of his fight against Rick Story just hours before the weigh-ins. As a result, Brenneman defeated Story in the evening's co-main event. Brenneman ended up in a unanimous decision victory, despite multiple submission attempts in the third round. He later revealed that after his shock victory, he'd thankfully been warned of his arrival for this fight earlier than Story, and that he was also gearing up for a fight with Story in case he turned out to be the replacement, which he was later.

Anthony Johnson was defeated via first-round TKO at UFC Live: Cruz vs. Johnson on October 1, 2011.

At UFC on FX: Guillard vs. Miller, Brenneman next met Daniel Roberts on January 20, 2012: Guillard vs. Miller. He gained the fight by unanimous vote.

Brenneman met Erick Silva on June 8, 2012 at UFC on FX 3 and lost via rear-naked choke near the end of the first round.

Brenneman was supposed to face Kyle Noke at UFC 151 on September 1, 2012. However, as a result of UFC 151's cancellation, Noke/Brenneman was rescheduled for September 22, 2012 at UFC 152. Brenneman was disqualified in the first round due to punches. Brenneman was suspended from service following the failure.

Brenneman was cut down to 155 pounds. Following his release from the UFC, the UFC has been releasing him. On Jan 19, 2013, Brenneman defeated Eric Irvin at VFL 40. He was crowned in the second round of the second round of the tournament. Brenneman defeated Jeremy Castro and Gemiyale Adkins in the Cage Fury Fighting Championships and then defeated Kyle Baker by submission via arm-triangle choke for the vacant CFFC lightweight title.

Brenneman returned to the UFC after defeating injured Jason High in a lightweight match on January 15, 2014 at UFC Fight Night 35. After being thrown by a left hand, Brenneman was quickly dismissed in the first round via rear-naked choke.

At UFC 172, Brenneman met Danny Castillo. Brenneman was disqualified early in the second round after a back-and-forth first round.

On November 8, 2014, Brenneman met Leandro Silva at UFC Fight Night 56. Following several takedown attempts, Brenneman was declared naked in the first round by a rear naked choke. Brenneman was suspended from the service after the disastrous loss.
