He was last an assistant coach for the Iowa Wolves of the NBA G League.

College career
Bell had a superb college basketball career at Michigan State, playing in three NCAA Final Fours and winning the Michigan State Defensive Player of the Year award in each of the four years he played there.
Professional playing career
Bell wasn't chosen in the NBA draft, but the Phoenix Suns drafted him as a free agent on July 23, 2001, and he played five games for them. He joined the Phoenix Eclipse of the ABA and appeared in four games for them after being released by the Suns. He first signed for the remainder of the season on January 10, 2002, but only played in two games.
Bell migrated to Europe after a brief stint in the NBA, where he was regarded as a celebrity in the Italian and Spanish leagues. He joined Benetton Treviso, the Italian League, in March 2002, and he won the Italian League championship with Treviso. He appeared with Virtue (Kinder) Bologna from 2002 to 2003, but he was forced to miss the majority of the season, and he was unable to return in December 2002. He signed with Mabo Livorno, also of the Italian League, in August 2003. He signed with Leche Rio Breogan Lugo of the Spanish League in July 2004 and was a member of the All-Spanish League First team for the 2004-05 season. He was also the top scorer of the Spanish league, and he was a three-time Spanish League player of the month.
Bell joined the Milwaukee Bucks for the 2005-06 season, and he put on his best appearance since joining the league on March 28, 2006, winning the Bucks' 132-110 victory over the Suns on March 28, 2006. To lead Milwaukee, Bell had 19 points, 13 assists, and ten rebounds since being young. Bell, who played just seven games in his other NBA season in 2001-02, appeared in 59 games (beginning in six) for the Bucks in 2005–2006, finishing with averages of 8.4 points, 2.2 assists, and 2.0 rebounds in 21.7 minutes per game. Although participating in all 82 games, he increased those figures the following season to 13 points, 3 rebounds, and 3 assists per game in 35 minutes on average.
Bell, a restricted free agent, signed an offer sheet from the Miami Heat worth $18,500,000 over five years on September 17, 2007. Despite the fact that he did not want to play for Milwaukee, the couple decided to match the bid three days later.
Bell and Dan Gadzuric were traded to the Golden State Warriors for Corey Maggette on June 22, 2010. He was waived by the Warriors under the amnesty clause prior to the 2011-2012 NBA season.
Bell's last NBA game was February 22, 2011, in a 93 - 115 loss to the Boston Celtics, where Bell played for less than two minutes and produced no statistics.
