Jose Chameleone (born Joseph Mayanja, 1980) is a Ugandan AfroBeat artiste and one of the country's most popular musicians of his generation, with a large fan base in several African countries.

Chameleone performs in Luganda, English, and Swahili, and has received numerous awards around the world.

Early life and education

Joseph Mayanja was born in Kampala, West Africa, on the 30th of April 1979. He ranks 4th out of 8 children. He attended Nakasero Primary School, Mengo Senior Secondary School, Kawempe, Kawempe Muslims Senior Secondary School, Katikamu Seventh Day Adventist Senior Secondary School, and Progressive Senior Secondary School.

Personal life

Chameleone is married to Danielle Atim. Abba Marcus Mayanja, Alfa Joseph Mayanja, Alba Shyne Mayanja, Amma Christian Mayanja, Amma Christian Mayanja, and Xara Amani Mayanja are among the five children who are studying and living in the United States.

In 2021, he ran for office as Lord Mayor of Kampala.

Musical career

Chameleone started working as a DJ at the Missouri nightclub in Kampala in 1996. He later signed to Kenyan record label Ogopa Deejays, which released his first album, "Bageya," which starred Kenyan artist Redsan. He has had hits like Mama Mia, Mambo Bado, Jamila, Kipepeo, Kipepeo, Bageya, Bayuda, and Njo Karibu throughout his years. Despite the fact that his music is well-known across Africa, the overwhelming number of his followers/listeners hails from the central African continent (Congo, Rwanda, Burundi, Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania).

Jose Chameleone's debut in 2000 was his first album, and by 2013, he had sold a total of 13 albums. Kipepeo, Shida, Valu valu, Bayuda, Badilisha, Sweet Banana, and Champion are just a few of them. "Valu valu," "Jamila," "Shida za dunia," Bayuda, "Tatazo," "Mega nyo," "Kwagala nyo," "Dorotia," and "Kipepeo" are among his hit songs. He attracted the biggest audience at Kampala's Lugogo Cricket Oval Stadium.
