Career
The Melody Makers came into their own after Bob Marley's father died. Four of Bob Marley's ten children, guitarist/guitarist Ziggy, singer/guitarist Stephen, vocalist/drummer Stephen, drummer Cedella, vocalist Cedella, and vocalist Sharon were among the band's four children, including vocalist/guitarist Jedella. Ziggy, the group's younger brother, was often involved in the songwriting and lead vocals.
The band has released over ten albums, including Conscious Party, One Bright Day, and Fallen Is Babylon. "Tomorrow People," "Everyone Wants to Be," "Look Who's Dancin'," and "Power to Move Ya" have all scored on the charts, including "Tomorrow People."
Cedella Marley appeared in a few films, including the 1989 version starring Denzel Washington, and she was the female lead in Joey Breaker (1993) opposite Richard Edson.
The group officially disbanded in 2002. Cedella is now the CEO of Tuff Gong International, her father's recording company. 1Love, her family's charitable group, also helps with 1Love. "Can You Feel The Love Tonight," Cedella's compilation album, "The Disney Reggae Club," was released in June 2010.
Cedella has launched several clothing collections, including "Catch a Fire," "High Tide," "Nice Time Deconstructed," and "Nice Time Kids." It was announced in February 2011 that she would design the uniform for the Jamaican track and field team at the 2012 Olympics, which included world champion Usain Bolt, under a Puma deal. "Grace Jones meets my Dad," she described her outfits as "very music-inspired and a little retro."
In September 2011, she published her book One Love. Cedella was also included in the documentary film Marley, which was released in April 2012. Cedella Marley is also recording an album that will be released in 2012 or 2013.
In February 2014, Bob Marley's Three Little Birds, which includes many of her father's songs, opened at the New Victory Theater in New York City.
Marley launched a line of menswear in June 2014, influenced both by her father's clothes and the 2014 World Cup team designs. It consisted mainly of sportswear such as T-shirts, hoodies, and tracksuit jackets. Marley was the line's name. The funds from the line will go to support Jamaica's national football team, the Reggae Girlsz, of which Marley is currently a sponsor and official ambassador.
