Casey Cizikas Career

Playing career

In the 2007 Ontario Hockey League (OHL) Priority Selection draft, the Mississauga St. Michael's Majors selected Cizikas for their first pick, third overall, in the Mississauga St. Michael's Majors. He made his OHL debut in 2007-08 season, finishing tenth in rookie scoring with 41 points in 62 games.

Cizikas was selected by the New York Islanders with their fourth round pick, 92nd overall, at the 2009 NHL Entry Draft. He returned to the Majors in 2009–10 season, where he tied for the team's highest scoring with 62 points and led with a plus-minus rating of +32. In the 2010-11 season, Cizikas served as their captain, where he earned 64 points. He continued his 19 more in the OHL playoffs this year, leading the Majors to the championship series, but they lost in seven games to the Owen Sound Attack.

The majority of the 2011–12 season for Cizikas, the Islanders' minor league affiliate, the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, was active in the American Hockey League (AHL). He scored his first two goals with the Providence Bruins on October 18, 2011, and was second in team scoring with 45 points by the end of the season. During the season, he was recalled by the Islanders and made his NHL debut against the New York Rangers on February 24, 2012. He appeared in 15 games with the Islanders this season, with four assists. His first two NHL points came against the Philadelphia Flyers on March 1, 2012. Since returning to the Sound Tigers in April, an upper body injury prevented him from playing in the team's final five games of the regular season, but he returned in time for the playoffs.

Cizikas joined the Sound Tigers in 2012-2013 as a result of the NHL lockout. He had 21 points in 31 games with Bridgeport before the labour dispute was settled, and he was recalled to the Islanders. He then scored his first NHL goal against Pittsburgh's goaltender Marc-André Fleury on January 29, 2013. In 45 regular season games, the Ciccikas scored six goals and 15 points, before adding four points in six Stanley Cup playoff games.

By hockey analysts, Cizikas' line, which includes him, Matt Martin, and Cal Clutterbuck, was deemed the best 4th line in the NHL during the 2015-2016 campaign. Cizikas is widely considered to be one of the best fourth line players in the NHL. On June 2, 2016, Cizikas signed a new five-year contract with the Islanders. The Islanders' Bob Nystrom Award was presented to Cizikas on April 5, 2018. Cizikas received his second Bob Nystrom Award on May 24, 2019.

The Islanders had Cizikas re-signed to a six-year, $15 million contract on September 1, 2021.
