Torey Krug Life

Toby Krug (born April 12, 1991) is an American professional ice hockey defenseman who plays for the Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League. (NHL)

He played NCAA hockey at Michigan State University before transferring to the Indiana Ice of the United States Hockey League (USHL), winning the Clark Cup for the second time, the team's first-ever championship. Krug was named CCHA Player of the Year in 2012 and a finalist for the Hobey Baker Award.

Personal life

Krug was born in Livonia, Michigan, on April 12, 1991, the son of Cheryl and Kyle Krug. Adam, Toy's brother, played college hockey at Adrian College, and Matt, his brother, attended Robert Morris University and Wayne State University. Zak, his brother, plays college volleyball at Siena Heights University in Adrian, Michigan.

Krug is married to Melanie Krug. They have two children together. Krug is a Christian.

Former Detroit Red Wings forward Pavel Datsyuk was "the most well-rounded player on the ice," Toby says, after former teammate Zdeno Chára. His father has the most clout in hockey, according to him.

Krug earned a Bachelor's degree in Political Science from Michigan State University in May 2017. He began enrolling in the finance program at the university but then moved to Pre-Law because he didn't like the content. Krug was forced to re-register with Boston due to the fact that Law was not accessible online, directing him to Political Science. During the NHL off-season, he earned his remaining 38 credits online during the next five years.

Krug skated in 59 regular season games for the Indiana Ice of the United States Hockey League (USHL), scoring 47 points. He later played for the Belle Tire midget program in Michigan. Despite being undrafted in the USHL, Krug was given an invitation by coach Jeff Blashill to try out for the Ice, eventually making the team. Krug also skated in 13 Clark Cup playoff games with seven points before winning the championship. In 2008-09, he was a member of the USHL All-Rookie Team and set a new record for points in a season by a defenseman.

Krug joined Michigan State University in the fall of 2009 and was first listed as a fifth or sixth defenseman on the roster. Krug was named to the CCHA's All-Rookie Team during the 2009–2010 season. After skating in all 38 games, he finished second on the team in rookie scoring and led all CCHA first-year defensemen in scoring. Krug quickly rose to fame as one of the CCHA's most offensive players, and the Spartans' captain was appointed ahead of his sophomore season. Krug, a sophomore, was selected to the First Team All-CCHA and named as the CCHA's Best Offensive Defenseman (he was the CCHA's top-scoring defenseman that year). He was selected to the All-CCHA Team for the second time in 2011–12 and was named CCHA Player of the Year and a Hobey Baker Award finalist.
