Carol Emshwiller (April 12, 1921-February 2, 2019) was an American writer of avant-garde short stories and science fiction who has received awards ranging from the Nebula Award to the Philip K. Dick Award.

Ursula K. Le Guin has described her as "a big fabulist, a brilliant magical realist, one of the most influential, most consistent feminist voices in fiction." Carmen Dog and The Mount are two of her books.

Ledoyt and Leaping Man Hill are two of Ledoyt's cowboy books.

In April 2007, her last book, The Secret City, was published. "Regularly served as his model for paintings of beautiful women," she wrote. Susan Emshwiller, their daughter, co-wrote Pollock.
