Carmine Dominick Giovinazzo ( KAR-myne jee-AH-zoh, born August 24, 1973) is an American actor, writer, painter, and singer best known for his role as Detective Danny Messer in CSI: New York.
Early life
Giovinazzo was born and raised in the Port Richmond neighborhood of New York's Staten Island, New York, and the son of Nancy and Dominick Giovinazzo. Giovinazzo grew up to be a huge sports fan. He graduated from Port Richmond High School in 1991 and received a baseball scholarship from Wagner College. He had aspired to be a professional baseball player, but a serious back injury ended his career aspirations; with the help of his family, he went to acting. He studied acting at Wagner College and HB Studios, and spent four years in New York City in mainly non-paying positions.
Personal life
Giovinazzo plays the guitar, as well as writing stories and poetry. He is also a painter, mainly in oils, and one of his works appeared in CSI: New York's "Tri-Borough" episode. He is currently a lead vocalist in Ceesau, who has released one album, Era of the Exposed (2008). In the CSI: NY sixth-season episode "Sanguine Love," Giovinazzo wrote, the song "Tear To Spare" from this album was performed.
Giovinazzo is a cousin of Buddy Giovinazzo and Larry Romano.
Vanessa Marcil, a young actress from Giovinazzo, married actress Vanessa Marcil in a private ceremony in New York City on July 11, 2010. Marcil obtained a divorce in August 2012 on the grounds of irreconcilable inconsistencies. In March 2013, the divorce was finalized.
Career
Giovinazzo made the move to Los Angeles in 1997. He received his first Hollywood role in Buffy the Vampire Slayer's pilot, in which his character was the show's first on-screen victim. He appeared in numerous guest-starring roles on television and film, including Billy's Hollywood Screen Kiss, For Love of the Game, The Big Brass Ring, and Black Hawk Down. He was also selected for a Peoples Choice Award after being cast as one of the short-lived UPN sitcom Shasta McNasty. In Enemy Hands with William H. Macy and Players with Freddy Rodriguez and Peter Dobson are two other films in which he appeared. In the last episode of the TV show Columbo, Tony Galper played Tony Galper, the perpetrator.
Danny Messer, the first actor to appear in all three CSI films, was cast as forensic scientist Danny Messer in the CSI: Miami episode "NOBOMStop" (along with the other CSI: NY cast members), and he guest-starred in season three of the Las Vegas-based original series "Revenge is Best Served Cold" (though it is never stated that this guest spot was in any way connected to his appearance on CSI: NY). Giovinazzo wrote episodes for the series "Sanguine Love" in season six, bringing together series stars Melina Kanakaredes and Gary Sinise.
Giovinazzo portrayed Sid Markham in season two of the USA television series Graceland in 2014. He reunited with his co-star Vanessa Fermo in this series.
