Career

Marsden's acting debut came in 1995 when he appeared on the ITV soap opera Emmerdale, playing the upper crust Daniel Weir, Linda Glover's lover. He was in the role for three months before the story was published. In Island, a Jersey-based ITV miniseries, he continued to play surfer Philip Kennedy. When Marsden appeared in Jeannot Szwarc's French film Les Soeurs Soleil (The Sun Sisters), he was also dressed in drag.

He appeared on Coronation Street on 3 March 1997 as mechanic Chris Collins and remained with the series until 29 March 1998. He was voted the Most Popular Newcomer on 1997 by the role. Following his demise from Coronation Street, Marsden decided on a change of direction and a short career as a pop star followed. He signed a £500,000 record with Columbia Records in July 1998 and unveiled his debut single, "The Heart's Lone Desire," which debuted at number 13 on the UK singles chart. He followed his debut with a second single, a cover of Hall & Oates' "She's Gone," with his label-mates Destiny's Child providing backing-vocals, which reached number 24 on the UK singles chart.

Marsden returned to acting in the USA networks mini-series Helen of Troy; Army Ranger Dale Sizemore in Ridley Scott's blockbuster film Black Hawk Down. In John Irvin's film Shiner, Anacondas (the sequel to Anaconda) and Tamara, a supernatural thriller written by Final Destination screenwriter Jeffrey Reddick, he appeared. He appeared in the films DOA: Dead or Alive and Resident Evil: The Extinction. He co-starred in Rambo (2008) and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.
