Beginning Monday, Los Angeles elementary schools with children as young as five will celebrate 'National Coming Out Day' for a week. One of the celebrations is a 'Identity Nap' project, which is aimed at teaching'students' to think critically about identity and intersectionality.' Elementary teachers in the district received a "Week of Action Toolkit" from the Los Angeles Unified School District's Board of Education. According to reports, the toolkit includes lesson plans that the district deems appropriate for elementary students on LGBTQ+ topics. The celebration is a stark contrast to their bicoastal counterparts in Florida, where LGBT+ discussions in schools have almost entirely been outlawed, as well as some books.

Carl Nassib, the first openly gay player in the NFL in 2021, called time on his career on Wednesday. In the 2016 draft, the 30-year-old was drafted by the Cleveland Browns before going on to play for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Las Vegas Browners. Nassib spent seven seasons in the league before deciding that his 'next chapter' was long overdue.' It was a 'bittersweet moment,', he said.

Kevin Maxen, the Jacksonville Jaguars' associate strength coach, made history by becoming the first male coach in a major American men's sport to come out as gay. Maxen came out in a conversation with SBNation website OutSports revealing that he has been in a relationship with his boyfriend Nick for about two-and-a-half years. Maxen told Outsports, "I don't want to feel like I have to worry about it anymore." I don't want to feel as though I have to lie about who I am seeing or why I am living with someone else.'

After signing with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, former Las Vegas Raider Carl Nassib will continue his NFL career as a teammate of Tom Brady. After being cut by the Raiders in March after two seasons, Nassib signed a one-year contract with the NFC South team. After suiting up for the Buccaneers during the 2018 and 2019 seasons, it would be a homecoming of sorts for the NFL's only openly gay player.
