Carl Nassib Life

Carl Paul Nassib (born April 12, 1993) is an American football outside linebacker for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers of the National Football League (NFL).

In the third round of the 2016 NFL Draft, he played college football at Penn State and was drafted by the Cleveland Browns.

Early years

In West Chester, Pennsylvania, Nassib was born. He attended Malvern Preparatory School, where he was a three-year letterman in football. He served as both an offensive tackle and defensive end. In his junior and senior years, he led the team to a 7–4 record. Nassib has also lettered twice in basketball, as well as three times in track and field. He was named team captain in basketball as a senior, leading the Friars to their 24-7 record.

Personal life

Gilbert Nassib, Nassib's father, played college football at the University of Delaware. Ryan, his older brother, was a quarterback at Syracuse University and played in the NFL from 2013 to 2017.

Nassib posted a note on his Instagram account stating that he is gay, becoming the first active NFL player to come out publicly on June 21, 2021, during Pride Month. He pledged $100,000 to The Trevor Project, an organization dedicated to crisis response and suicide prevention among LGBTQ people, and he'll continue to promote their work. The NFL, Raiders, Penn State, and current and former athletes all show their love for him. He was the top best sellers among all NFL players at Fanatics, the league's sales partner, on that day, jerseys and T-shirts branded with his name.

College career

In 2011, Nassib enrolled at Pennsylvania State University and joined the Penn State Nittany Lions football team as a walk-on. In 2013, he appeared in ten games as a sophomore, during coach Bill O'Brien's second and final season with the team. Twelve tackles and one sack were recorded by Nassib. As a youth, he appeared in all 13 games and had seven tackles and one sack. In 2015, he became a starter for the first time in his senior year. To start the year, Nassib had ten sacks in just six games.

For 2015, Nassib was named unanimous All-American and Big Ten's Nagurski-Woodson Defensive Player of the Year. He was rewarded with the Hendricks Award for the nation's best defensive player, as well as the Lombardi Award for the best college football lineman or linebacker. In addition to the Burlsworth Trophy given to the country's best defensive player of the year, Nassib was a finalist for several other accolades, including the Bronko Nagurski Trophy, which was given to the country's best defensive player, as well as the Burlsworth Trophy to the nation's best defensive player who began their career as a walk-on.

Professional career

The Cleveland Browns drafted Nassib in the third round of the 2016 NFL draft, picking him with the 65th pick. On June 28, Nassib signed a four-year contract worth about $3.2 million, as well as a scribble bonus worth about $890,000.

In the Raiders' 2021 season opener against Baltimore, Nassib strip fired quarterback Lamar Jackson in overtime, which Las Vegas defeated to set up the winning touchdown in a 33–27 victory. He became the first openly gay NFL player to play in a game by participating in the game. During the season, he appeared in 13 games with 21 tackles and 1+12 sacks. He was cut by the Raiders in the offseason on March 17, 2022.

Nassib signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on August 16, 2022, and 93 was his jersey number. With a $200,000 signing bonus, the 1-year deal is classified as a veteran salary increase.
