Cara Williams (born Bernice Kamiat; June 29, 1925) is an American film and television actress.
She is best known for her appearance in Billy's Mother (1958), for which she was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress and her appearance in the CBS television series Pete and Gladys, which was nominated for the Emmy Award for Best Lead Actress in a Comedy.
Personal life
Williams began impersonating all of the screen actors she loved in the movies and knew she wanted to be an actress. Her parents died, and her mother moved her to Los Angeles, where she chose Cara Williams as her stage name and attended the Hollywood Professional School. She soon began singing on radio, and by the age of 16, she was signed to a film deal and began appearing in bit roles, and Bernice Kay was credited as Bernice Kay.
Williams married Alan Gray in 1945; they had a daughter, Cathy Gray, but the union came to an end after two years. In 1952, Williams married John Drew Barrymore. The marriage was difficult, and the couple divorced in 1959. John Blyth Barrymore, the family's son, is a former actor. Asher Dann, the couple's third husband, lived in Los Angeles until his death in 2018, aged 83.
