Cameron Stewart Life

Cameron Reece Stewart (born 8 April 1991) is an English professional footballer who is a free agent following his release from Lincoln City at the end of the 2017/18 season.

He has been played primarily as a winger, but he can also play as a forward. He began his career with Manchester United, and also represented England at under-17, under-19 and under-20 level.

He had loan spells with Yeovil Town and Hull City in the first half of the 2010–11 season, before he joined Hull permanently for an undisclosed fee in January 2011.

After a year at Hull, he fell out of favour and went on successive loan spells to Burnley, Blackburn Rovers, Charlton Athletic and Leeds United throughout the 2012–13 and 2013–14 campaigns.

He was due to join Leeds permanently at the end of his Hull contract in July 2014, but the transfer was cancelled and he instead joined Ipswich Town.

However he made just two FA Cup appearances for the club, and had loan spells with Barnsley and Doncaster Rovers in the 2015–16 season, before he was released by Ipswich in August 2016.

Cameron Stewart Career

Club career

Stewart, a Manchester boy, began his football career with Manchester United and joined as a trainee in 2007. He was promoted by manager Alex Ferguson in December 2009 to the first-team after playing his way up through the youth and reserve teams. He was named as an unavailable substitute in the UEFA Champions League match against VfL Wolfsburg.

Stewart obtained a six-month loan at Yeovil Town in July 2010. After arriving as a 77th-minute replacement for Dean Bowditch in a 2–1 victory over Leyton Orient at Huish Park on August 7, the first day of the 2010–11 season, he made his League One debut in a 2–1 victory. After appearing in only five appearances for Terry Skiverton's "Glovers," Stewart returned to Old Trafford in October.

Stewart joined Hull City of the Championship on loan until January 4, 2011. In a 2–2 draw at Middlesbrough on November 27, he made his "Tigers" debut. Following a string of good performances, Hull City's loan was extended until the 2010-11 season. Stewart took up Hull City on a permanent basis on January 31, 2011, for a fee that is expected to be in the region of £300,000. However, he sustained critical ligament damage in a 1–1 draw at Ipswich Town on February 19th, putting him out for the remainder of the season and the beginning of the following season.

Stewart returned to first-team action on November 19, 2011 after cutting inside from the left, after being suspended from the left for the first time. In a 3–1 FA Cup victory over Ipswich Town at the KC Stadium on January 7, he scored his second goal for Hull. Following his return from injury, Stewart was subjected to a bid from Leicester City, which was turned down by former Hull manager Nigel Pearson, who was told that the winger was "not for sale." Stewart remained at Hull and played regularly for the remainder of the 2011–12 season under new manager Nick Barmby, and he was "really happy" at the club.

Stewart's opportunities at the club became limited under new manager Steve Bruce, and he joined Burnley on loan on August 31, 2012. After starting two out of three of his first games at Turf Moor, his appearances became increasingly limited and he failed to play again for the "Clarets" after Sean Dyche fired Eddie Howe as manager; as a result, Hull manager Bruce said that "he's probably going to return to us in January and we'll see how it goes." Both groups have been chastised. He was forced to play games with Burnley, but it wasn't the case for him." Stewart began in a 1–1 home draw with Leyton Orient in the FA Cup in January, shortly after Bruce was dismissive of Stewart's match fitness. Stewart joined Blackburn Rovers on loan for the remainder of the 2012–13 season on March 1st. Danny Murphy's replacement for Danny Murphy in a 3–2 loss at Peterborough United on 2 March, he made his debut for Michael Appleton's "Riversiders" as a second-half replacement for Danny Murphy. Stewart was heavily involved in Hull City's promotion to the Premier League at the end of the 2012–13 season, and he was strongly linked to Celtic in Scotland.

Stewart spent the first two months on loan at Charlton Athletic before moving to Charlton, England, until January 2014. After arriving on as a 68th-minute replacement for Richard Wood on his debut for the "Addicks" in a 2–1 loss at Huddersfield Town on September 17th, he scored on his debut for the "Addicks" on September 17th. On September 28, he made his first appearance against Burnley, his former club Burnley, where he was playing in the first 83 minutes of a 3–0 away loss. Stewart had a volley from distance on 9 November in a 4–2 loss to Leeds United at The Valley. Charlton boss Chris Powell said he was hopeful of extending Stewart's stay at the club until the end of December.

Stewart signed an initial three-month emergency loan with Leeds United's owner, Brian McDermott, on a three-year contract beginning at the end of the 2013–14 season, marking the first signing made by the Sports Capital consortium under brief ownership. Since already representing two clubs (Hull City and Charlton Athletic) in the 2013-2014 season, the agreement was initially only on a loan basis to circumvent FIFA rules that barred Stewart from signing a permanent contract at a club. In a 6–0 loss at Sheffield on Wednesday, he made his "Whites" debut on January 11th.

During his loan tenure at Elland Road, he made 11 appearances before being forced to cancel the permanent transfer. Stewart also sued Leeds United and was paid £750,000 in damages as a result of his three-year deal.

Stewart joined Ipswich Town in the Championship on a three-year deal on July 1, 2014. He cracked his jaw and was barred from action for the first six weeks of the campaign right before the start of the 2014–15 season. In a 1–1 draw with Southampton in the FA Cup on January 4, 2015, Stewart made his "Blues" debut as a 62nd-minute replacement. Stewart joined Barnsley's tenny on loan until the end of the 2014–15 season on March 21. He appeared on Lee Johnson's "Tykes" for four years before returning to Ipswich.

Stewart joined Doncaster Rovers on loan until January on August 28, 2015. In a 2–0 victory over Fleetwood Town at the Keepmoat Stadium the following day, he made his debut as a replacement. Stewart extended his loan from January 14 to the end of the 2015–16 season. Ferguson praised Rovers boss Darren Ferguson for his decision to remain on the team, and Ferguson said Stewart provided good compensation for wing-back Felipe Mattioni. Stewart was hospitalized with whiplash after he landed on his head during a match against Gillingham two days later. When the club was relegated out of League One, he made a total of 28 appearances for "Donny," scoring four goals. Stewart was fired by Ipswich boss Mick McCarthy on August 31, 2016, having made just two FA Cup appearances during his two years at Portman Road.

During summer 2017, Stewart appeared at Charlton Athletic and Port Vale.

Stewart left Lincoln City on October 24, 2017. At the end of the 2017-18 season, Lincoln's deal came to an end.

Stewart retired from competitive football at the age of 28.

Stewart appeared for England under the age of 17, 19-21, and under-20 international levels. Since his family is from Glasgow, he is also eligible to play for Scotland.
