Alan "Buz" Kohan (born August 9, 1933) is an American television writer, producer, and composer.

Early life

In the Bronx, New York City, Kohan was born to a Jewish family, the son of Charles (b. May Kohan and 1902) were among the 1902 and May Kohan. His father was working in the leotard industry, while his mother was a housewife.

Personal life

When Rhea Arnold was employed in Lake George, New York, Kohan met him. They married on July 17, 1962, and they have three children together: Jono, David Kohan (who are twins) and Jenji Kohan. Rhea Kohan, his wife, has published the books Save Me a Seat (Harper & Row, 1979) and Hand-Me-Downs (Random House, 1980).

David and Jenji have all been nominated for Emmy Awards, making them one of only 15 families with parents and children who have won.

Career

In 1955 and 1956, Kohan attended the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, earning bachelor's and master's degrees. After living in New York in 1967, he was offered work on The Carol Burnett Exhibition, eventually relocating to Los Angeles.

He produced many television specials, including Bing Crosby's Christmas Show (1970), Perry Como's Winter Show (1971), Bing Crosby's (1972), Illusions (1982), and Shirley MacLaine: Dreams (1982).

He wrote special content for Night of One Hundred Stars, which was released in 1982 by Radio City Music Hall, and Larry Grossman on Broadway, and later (with Marvin Hamlisch, Christopher Adler, and Larry Grossman) Shirley MacLaine on Broadway, produced at Gershwin Theatre, New York City, 1984.
