Bruce Beresford (born 16 August 1940) is an Australian film director who has made more than 30 feature films in his 50-year career.

Breaker Morant (1980), Tender Mercies (1983), Crimes of the Heart (1986), and Driving Miss Daisy (1989) are two of the best films he has directed.

Personal life

Virginia Duigan, the niece of film director and editor John Duigan, is Beresford's second wife. He has five children and now works in both Australia and the United States.

Beresford studied at the University of Sydney with art critic and aficionado Robert Hughes, protester and author Germaine Greer, journalist Robert Murray, poet Les Murray, and writer Mungo McCallum. John Bell, actor and theatre producer, owned a house and did some film acting. Beresford, an Australian comedian, satirist, and character actor, is best known for his on-stage/television alter ego, Dame Edna Everage, and his family.
