Steven James Brody (May 22, 1970 – February 22, 2019), also known as Brody Stevens, was an American stand-up comedian and actor.

Brody Stevens: Enjoy It! appeared on Chelsea Lately and other comedy series as well as small roles in films such as The Hangover (2010) and Due Date (2010).

Early life

Steven Brody was born in Los Angeles, California, on May 22, 1970. Stevens' family comes from New Mexico and Arizona. His grandmother was born in New Mexico on May 2, 1909. Harold Morris Brody, his father, was born in Phoenix and spent as a private investigator. Stevens referred to his family as the southwest's "pioneering Jews." Stevens was born in Los Angeles and briefly enrolled in private school until his mother decided against attending public school. During Stevens' early childhood, the family moved to Sacramento. Stevens and his older sister spent eight years in the San Fernando Valley after his parents divorced when he was eight years old. Stevens did not go to Hebrew School or read from the Torah for his Bar Mitzvah. Stevens and his father, who was dating a member of the choir, attended a nondenominational Christian church in 1982.

He played for Reseda High School and was a right-handed pitcher on the baseball team. On several occasions, he was struck out ten batters (he was often clocked on the radar gun for speed), but his lows featured balking in runs in playoff games. Stevens earned a scholarship to play Division I College Baseball for the Arizona State Sun Devils baseball program, pitching 28 innings and making 3 saves in four games. He received a 2.52 GPA when he was a student at the University of Georgia. Stevens' father died at the age of 63 in 1997. He grew up in Rancho Mirage, California.

Career

Stevens first attempted stand-up in Los Angeles before heading to Seattle, where he began constructing an act, in addition to co-creating and co-starring in a public-access television program with Teina Manu. Brody and Teina received a cult following. His career spanned three years in New York City before he found a home on the Los Angeles comedy scene.

Stevens appeared on television shows Late Night with Conan O'Brien, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Late Friday, Premium Blend with Craig Kilborn, The Late Late Show with Jillian Barberie, The Best Damn Sports Show Period, Part II, Saturday and Sunday, Tosh.0, Conan, Comedy Bang! Bang!, Jeff Ross' Kroll Show, The Ben Show, and @midnight. He served on Chelsea's regular committee until recently.

Stevens' own podcast The Brody Stevens Experiment appeared in 2010. Only three episodes were released. Stevens co-hosted Brode & Esther, a podcast for the Deathsquad network starring fellow stand-up comedians Esther Povitsky and Brian Redban on October 7, 2011. Since 15 episodes were released, fifteen episodes have been added.

Brody Stevens, a documentary comedy film made for HBO in 2011, Enjoy It! Zach Galifianakis was a project executive producer on the initiative. It was released in 2012 as six 15-minute episodes on HBO's new digital platform HBO GO, which received rave feedback. Brody Stevens: Enjoy It! Following the success of his HBO show, Comedy Central picked it up Brody Stevens' "Enjoy It!" The film was shot by HBO, as well as additional material shot by Comedy Central, and was released in 2013 as twelve 21-minute episodes.

Stevens was also a veteran audience warm-up performer and served on The Best Damn Sports Show Period, The Man Show, Chelsea Lately, Rob Dyrdek's Ridiculousness, Who Gets the Last Laugh?, The Exes, and Why? Hannibal Buress stars.

Stevens appeared in the films Road to Park City, Jesus Is Magic (2004), The Hangover (2009), Due Date (2010), and The Hangover Part II (2011). He appeared in a minor role in (2009) Funny People, but his scenes were eventually cut from the film.

On the Feral Audio network, Stevens released The Steven Brody Stevens Festival of Friendship on May 13, 2012. Stevens was interviewed about his work and personal life, as well as interviewing his colleagues from around the comedy world. A total of 69 episodes were released. Stevens' new podcasting venture as the host of Positive Push on the Video Podcast Network YouTube channel, an affiliate of the Jash network.

Stevens has also been a regular podcast listener. He appeared on Deathsquad podcasts and appeared on The Joe Rogan Experience as well as Sam Tripoli's The Naughty Show. Stevens has also appeared on alternative comedy podcasts, including Who Charted and appearing on Doug Loves Movies as a contestant and guest on Earwolf podcasts. Howard Kremer and Kulap Vilaysack are among Howard Kremer's guests. In addition, Stevens has appeared on Jay Mohr Sports as a guest on Jay Mohr's sports radio show Jay Mohr Sports.

Stevens appeared in a variety of comedy clubs around Los Angeles and was known for his late-night appearances at the Comedy Store. Stevens taped a live comedy set at The Royale in Boston on February 27, 2013. The Second Season of Comedy Central's The Half Hour appeared on February 27, 2013. He also produced a series of interviews with the other 16 comedians on The Half Hour called Push & Believe while in Boston. In December 2013, it was first posted on Comedy Central's YouTube channel. He toured the country in 2013 for Dave Chappelle's Oddball Comedy Tour headlined.

About a year before his death, Stevens appeared on Barstool Sports Sirius XM radio show Dialed in Dallas, hosted by former MLB Pitcher Dallas Braden.
