Sir Bobby Charlton, a man from Ashington, was able to help Ashington once more, but they need assistance, and fast

IAN HERBERT: The volunteers hadn't yet got around to transferring the mud from Ashington Community Football Club's corridors, a remnant of Saturday's 4-0 win over Carlton Town, and waves of unremitting rain rolled in from the sea. However, the images on the walls in the exhibit provided an amazing light. During the 1966 World Cup, Sir Bobby Charlton and his brother Jack were dominant the club's central staircase. Cissie, the two children's mother, were hanging on the wall of a modest dining room overlooking the pitch. In the aftermath of the Munich Disaster, another of Sir Bobby's juggling a ball was found among a black-and-white montage laid around the home dressing room wall. This mining village was almost as much as the colliery whose employees it was built to house, according to the brothers. 'Born in Ashington, made in Manchester,' is the legend of Sir Bobby, who was born on Beatrice Street, one of the terraces built in the colliery's distinctive sandpaper coloured Ashington brick.'

Sue Barker and Cliff Richard (pictured left and right) were in a relationship for only a short period of time in the 1980s, but their fling is now being discussed 40 years later. Although they were seen celebrating in public (right), Cliff decided they were unlikely to marry, even though he said he adored being with her.' The Press picked up on it as they began spending more time together, but Sue Barker drew the news. Although she had worked with Greg Norman in the 1970s, she had never experienced Cliff's media hysteria.
