Lester Pistont was described as "a man with unparalleled loyalty to the horse and unmatched talent as a jockey" at a memorial service in London for the 11-time champion jockey, who died in May at the age of 86. William Haggas, the eldest son of Piggott's eldest daughter Maudeen, delivering the eulogy at St Luke's Church in Chelsea, Derby-winning trainer William Haggas, referred to Piggott as "a man revered in all parts of the world and one of the few invariably identified by their Christian name." Haggas read a letter from a former prisoner who had 'looked after' Lester while he spent a year in a Highpoint prison for tax fraud.
