Elizabeth "Betsy" Russell (born September 6, 1963) is an American actress best known for her appearances in Private School (1983), Tomboy (1985), and as Jill Tuck, one of the main characters of the Saw film series from 2006-2010.
Early life
Russell was born in San Diego, California, as the niece of journalist and educator Max Lerner, Constance's niece. Her father and maternal grandfather were Jewish. Russell wanted to be an actor from the age of eight and started acting in school plays. When she was in high school, she appeared in a Pepsi commercial that was taped locally. She moved to Los Angeles and started attending acting classes before landing her first job. She earned a master's degree in Spiritual Psychology at the University of Santa Monica and is a licensed hypnotist and life coach, as well as from the University of Santa Monica.

Russell was engaged to actor Vincent Van Patten, son of Dick Van Patten, in August 1988. They were married in North Hollywood nine months later on May 27, 1989. Their wedding reception, which was attended by a number of A-list celebrities, was held at Van Patten's Sherman Oaks home. Russell and Peter Van Patten, Jr., divorced in 2001 and have two sons, Richard Van Patten (March 1993) and Vincent Van Patten, Jr. (September 3, 1995).
Career
Russell's first appearance in the 1982 film Let's Do It! She appeared on T. J. Hooker, Family Ties, and The Powers of Matthew throughout the year. Russell's breakout role in the sex comedy Private School was as Jordan Leigh-Jensen. She was invited to audition for the 1985 film Silverado but decided against it while shooting Avenging Angel. "Everything happens for a reason," she said in an interview. I always think my time if I had done that part would have been different. I can't remember if it was better or worse. "I've had a blast." She went on to appear in a number of B movies in the 1980s, including the comedy Tomboy and the slasher film Cheerleader Camp. Russell also appeared on television shows such as The A-Team, Murder, She Wrote, 1st & Ten, and an episode of Superboy, which was a reunion with her Tomboy co-star Gerard Christopher.
Russell appeared in a small role in Saw III as Jill Tuck, John Kramer's ex-wife. She went on to appear in Saw IV, Saw V, Saw VI, and Saw 3D as the protagonists. She appeared in Chain Letter, the SyFy film Mandrake's film, and My Trip to the Dark Side, a 2010 film.
