Elizabeth Ann Malone (born January 2, 1969) is an American actress and singer known for her appearances in Broadway, Off-Broadway, and regional theatre.

Alison Bechdel was the lead actress in the musical Fun Home, for which she was nominated for the Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical.

Personal life and education

She was born in Auburn, Nebraska, and raised in Castle Rock, Colorado, with Peggy and Bill Malone's daughter. Her mother is a professional country music performer. Malone performed in Annie in middle school and appeared in the theatre at Douglas County High School. Malone appeared Spaß at Loretto Heights College for the first time in musical theatre. When the school closed in 1989 while she was attending, she decided not to continue because she was unable to find work without a degree. She earned an MFA in Acting from UC Irvine in 1996 and later completed her degree at the University of Northern Colorado.

She began her playhouse work at the age of 16. At the age of 21, Malone migrated to New York City. After a period of not finding work, she returned to Aspen, Colorado, where she was able to perform a variety of occupations. She earned her Equity card when doing a job of Baby. She then migrated to Sherman Oaks, California, where she started appearing in television commercials and appearing in numerous shows throughout the Greater Los Angeles area. Malone is married to Rochelle Schoppert, a music technician.

In 2006, Malone made her Broadway debut in Ring of Fire. In 2005, she appeared Off-Broadway in the musical Bingo: A Winning New Musical at St. Luke's Theatre. Betty Jean appeared in The Marvelous Wonderettes Off-Broadway at the Westside Theatre in 2008. She appeared in Annie Get Your Gun in the Music Circus in Sacramento, California, in August 2011 and then at the San Diego Musical Theatre in May 2014.

In September and October 2014, she appeared in The Unsinkable Molly Brown at The Denver Center Theatre Company. In July 2017, she appeared in "Molly Brown" in The Muny (St. Louis, Missouri) production of The Unsinkable Molly Brown. Kathleen Marshall directed and choreographed the performance. Michael Riedel, a Gossip columnist, expected that The Unsinkable Molly Brown would be revived on Broadway, with Malone leading the way. In November 2017, she appeared leading in a company reading at the Roundabout Theatre Company. "There are currently no plans for a future production of the musical," a spokesperson for Roundabout Theatre Company told Playbill.

Beth Malone, a one-woman cabaret performance, has been created by Malone. So Far. "From her offbeat childhood in small-town Colorado to her not-quite-normal entrance to acting to her left-of-center adult life" she describes, "the show goes." She has appeared at the Wheeler Opera House in Aspen, Colorado, and at the Davenport Theatre in New York City in 2012.

Malone originated the role of (Big) Alison in the musical Fun Home, ranging from workshops to a 2013 Off-Broadway performance at the Public Theater. She reprised her role in the 2015 Broadway revival at the Circle in the Square Theatre, which came to a close on September 10, 2016. Steven Suskin, a writer, described her appearance as "the glue that holds the show together." For her performance, she received a nomination for Best Actress in a Musical. Though Beth has had a blast on stage and on film, her appearance in Fun Home was one of the first times she was able to portray a woman who identifies as homosexual.

In the Broadway revival of Tony Kushner's play Angels in America at the Neil Simon Theatre, Malone appeared as Angel at certain performances. Prior Walter and Nathan Lane as Roy Cohn were directed by Marianne Elliott and actor Andrew Garfield as Prior Walter and Nathan Lane. On February 23, the limited engagement opened on February 23, and ended on July 15, 2018.
