Early life

Becky Ann Gelke was born in Fort Knox, Kentucky, daughter of a military officer. She graduated from West Springfield High School in Springfield, Virginia, and Western Kentucky University.

Since 1990, Baker has been married to actor Dylan Baker. They have a daughter.

After series creator Paul Feig and Judd Apatow saw her role in Freaks and Geeks's A Simple Plan, she became involved in Freaks and Geeks. "They were so excited to use me from having no real television experience," she said. Stephen King's Storm of the Century and guest spots on L.A. Law, Frasier, and All My Children are among her television appearances.

Baker made her Broadway debut in 1981's production of The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, and she received a Drama-Logue Award in 1994 for her role in Night and Her Stars. She is a founding member of The Drama Dept., a New York-based theatre company.

She appeared in the NBC series Kings in 2009, playing Jessie Shepherd, the mother of protagonist David Shepherd's child. In the series, Dylan Baker, her real-life husband, played antagonist William Cross.
