Bear McCreary (born February 17, 1979) is an American musician and producer of film, television, and video games scores headquartered in Los Angeles, California.
He is best known for his role on the revived Battlestar Galactica television series as well as the TV series Outlander and The Walking Dead.
He has also scored for the PlayStation 4 video game God of War. McConnelly received an Emmy for his main role in Da Vinci's Demons.
In 2015, he received his most recent Emmy Award for Outstanding Music Composition for a Series on Outlander's season one.
Early life and education
McCleary spent the majority of his formative years in Bellingham, Washington. He is the son of author Laura Kalpakian and professor Jay McCreary of University of Hawaii in Manoa. Brendan McCleary, Brendan McCleary's brother, is also a musician. "Young Beautiful in a Hurry" is Bear's band's project. In 1997, he graduated from Bellingham High School.
He is a classically trained pianist and self-taught accordionist. During this time, he studied under renowned film score composer Elmer Bernstein, who reconstructed and reorchestrated Bernstein's 1963 score for Kings of the Sun. For the first time in 40 years, the entire score was released as a soundtrack album as a result of their collaboration.
McConnell attended the University of Texas' Thornton School of Music with the encouragement of Elmer Bernstein, his protégé, and graduated in 2002 from Screen Scoring.

Career
McCuery appeared in three-hour miniseries in 2003 as a pilot for Battlestar Galactica's reimagined series. Gibbs decided not to commit full time to the regular series's cast, and McCleary became the sole composer when the show was announced. He was on the show until it was over in 2009, with over 70 episodes total. Six Battlestar Galactica soundtrack albums have been released to date, and have received a lot of critical acclaim and commercial success. On the first days of release, Amazon.com's Top 30 Music Sales ranked the soundtracks for seasons two and three.
Caprica and Battlestar Galactica: Blood and Chrome was written by McConie for the Battlestar Galactica prequel collection Caprica and Battlestar Galactica.
McCreary gave the score for the series Human Target (based on the comic book of the same name). With a complete orchestra, the pilot episode and the main theme tune had been performed. The series has the distinction of having one of the country's biggest orchestras.
The score to season one's "Christopher Chance" featured the most large orchestra ever assembled for episodic television, and with this larger cast, he was able to rerecord the main title theme.
He received his first Emmy Award for his Human Target main title in July 2010.
