Barun Sengupta Life

Barun Sengupta (23 January 1934-1956) was a Bengali journalist and a well-known political critic.

He is best known for his bold and simple diction of political analysis, which made him extremely popular among West Bengal's common readers.

Life

Barun Sengupta and Ranibala Devi, the son of Nirmalanda Sengupta and Ranibala Devi, was born in Barisal (in modern Bangladesh). Sengupta and his family migrated to Kolkata before the partition of India in 1947 and rented a house near Baithakkhana Market in north-central Kolkata.

In B.M., he began his education. Barisal's school. He was later admitted to Town School, Kolkata. He formed Bhabikal, a periodical that lasted for a few years after graduating in commerce from City College, Kolkata. Bartaman was established in 1957, with the help of Hemanta Kumar Bose, the party's most popular leader, Forward Bloc. In 1960, he joined Anandabazar Patrika and became the country's first designated political correspondent. He and another reporter, Gour Kishore Ghosh, were arrested during the emergency and sent to prison.

In 1984, he left Anandabazar Patrika to start his own journal and launched Bartaman, a daily, on December 7th. The journal became extremely popular among common Bengali readers due to its sleek, intrepid style. Later Sengupta introduced Saptaman, a weekly, and Sukhi Grihokon, a monthly, and this time it was a hit. In West Bengal, these two journals are now widely read. After a brief illness, he died in a south Kolkata nursing home.
