Personal life
Flynn was born in St Leonards-on-Sea, Sussex. Dr. James McMurray, her Irish father, was a pathologist. Joy (or Joyce) Crawford Hurst's mother was the mother of her child. Flynn attended St Mary's Convent School in Hastings. She then studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama (where she was given the Gold Medal in 1968) before appearing in repertory theatre.
In 1982, Flynn married television producer and science writer Jeremy Taylor. Linus, the couple's son, was born in 1990. Taylor died on October 17, 2017.
