Early life and personal life
Ayelet Zurer was born and raised in Tel Aviv, Israel, with a Jewish family. In the 1950s, her mother was born in Czechoslovakia and immigrated to Israel. Her mother was saved during the Holocaust by hiding in a convent. Her Israeli-born father is of Russian-Jewish descent. "Working-class people," she has described her parents.
Zurer served in the Israel Defense Forces as a soldier in the Northern Command's military band.
Zurer spent three years at the Performing Arts Studio established by Yoram Loewenstein after finishing her military service. She then travelled to the United States and studied with George Morison at the Actor's Workshop in New York City.
