Audrey Gelman Career

Career

Gelman served as a press aide for Hillary Clinton's campaign for president in 2008. She served as deputy communications director in Scott Stringer's 2011 bid for New York City Comptroller. Gelman served with the political action committee Downtown for Democracy during the 2012 presidential election. Gelman joined the SKDKnickerbocker's New York office in 2013.

Gelman co-founder Lauren Kassan unveiled The Wing, a women's coworking space in October 2016. Initially, she and Kassan raised $2.4 million to create the club, with "aspirations to revive the spirit of the late 19th and early twentieth century suffrage movements." The first location was located in the Flatiron District. 200 women were eligible members of the club at the time.

The Wing did not have a formal membership policy in its first two years, and its policy was to only accept women and non-binary individuals. On March 1, 2018, the New York City Commission on Human Rights initiated a "commission-initiated" inquiry into how the Wing membership system works. A male applicant who was refusing admission filed a lawsuit against The Wing in August 2018. The company introduced its first formal membership program shortly after, which went into place on September 24, 2018. The Wing's motion to dismiss the case in June 2019 was denied, but the case was still pending in September 2019.

The Wing announced in April 2017 that it had raised a Series A led by venture capital firm New Enterprise Associates with support from Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers and the expansion to three new locations. The Series A funds amounted to $8 million. Around 1,500 members had by November 2017 by November 2017. That month, The Wing unveiled No Man's Land, as well as raising $32 million in a series B funding round, led by WeWork. By December 2017, the Wing had a second location in Soho, New York.

Gelman was one of its 50 Politicos to Watch in 2013. Audrey Gelman was one of Forbes' 30 Under 30: Corporate Climbers, and she had previously been listed in the magazine's 30 Under 30: Legisl and Policy list. Gelman was named to their Most Creative People in Business list in 2017. In December 2017, she was included in a TechCrunch article on 42 women in technology.

In the run-up to the 2016 presidential election, Gelman endorsed Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton.

Gelman was on the front page of Inc. magazine in 2019, marking the first time a physically pregnant woman appeared on a business magazine's front page.

Gelman resigned as CEO of The Wing in June 2020, following protests over how The Wing didn't respond to racist conduct of its staff members and a staff walkout.

Gelman opened The Six Bells ("a new country store") in Brooklyn, New York, in April 2022.

The Wing officially shuts down on August 31, 2022, the longest time the Wing has been active.

MEGHAN MCCAIN: DO worry, darling: Olivia Wilde has been exposed as a woke phony

www.dailymail.co.uk, September 7, 2022
MCCAIN: Is everyone excited to see actress Olivia Wilde's directorial debut 'Don't Worry Darling'? Nope. Critics claim it's a complete fail, with sappy wakery and mainly bad acting. But don't worry, the gossip and entertainment industries are captivated by the never-ending drip, drip, drip of spicy drama gushing around the film's release. Every tantalizingly active component of a slam-dunk reality TV show has been included. Feuding cast-members!Passive aggressive slights!Leaked videos, abject rudeness, one of the most disastrous movie premieres in recent memory at the glamorous Venice film festival and hot young actors… now THERE'S a hit! What in the world could have happened on that movie set to create such a toxic environment? Olivia Wilde is the correct answer, but for the answer, look no further than her. 'Girl Boss' has been playing for a long time.' However, it's getting clearer every day that she's just another woke phony. Wilde was discredited, as have many wealthy, white women who despise conservatives, who have recently joined the feminist movement.

The Wing, the beleaguered women's coworking space, has closed down all of its locations over night

www.dailymail.co.uk, September 3, 2022
The Wing was founded by Audrey Gelman (inset) and Lauren Kassan in New York City in 2016 as a women's only coworking space and social club. The company had nearly a dozen locations, including those in Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Chicago, at the height of its popularity. The Wing has been accused of unethical and racial treatment of its workers over the past few years, which culminated in Gelman's resignation in June 2020. Members learned that the six remaining locations that survived the pandemic were shut down immediately (right). According to the letter, the company was'unable to recover' in the aftermath of the 'Covid pandemic and rising global economic challenges.' A number of people took to Twitter to ask what would happen to the company's chic furniture as news of The Wing's demise made television news.
