With alleged Hitler slur at Alexander Zverev, the latest crowd incident in its history, US Open athletes playing into the early hours, raucous New Yorkers, and booze have always made for a tumultuous Arthur Ashe atmosphere

MIKE DICKSON OF NEW YORK: Tennis's insistence on its athletes playing into the early hours, balmy weather, raucous New Yorkers, and booze spitters can make for an explosive combination, as Flushing Meadows has discovered before. Today's US Open chiefs were picking through the recent crowd drama, which culminated in a fan screaming "Deutschland Uber Alles" at Alex Zverev during his marathon fourth-round victory over Italian Jannik Sinner that raged into Tuesday morning. After barracking the German player, who had consciously rejected terms that have such historical links, the fan, who was seated in prime seats that cost hundreds of dollars, was led out by security. Arthur Ashe Stadium is the world's biggest purpose-built tennis arena, with seating capacity of more than 22,000 people and no stranger to febrile atmospheres. It takes on a different dimension under lights, and Serena Williams' matches have erupted in some of the most competitive environments in recent years, particularly when she has lost her composure in the heat of battle.

DANIEL MATTHEWS AT FLUSHING MEADOWS: So Mirra Andreeva will have to wait a little longer to topple Coco Gauff and keep her meteoric climb to the top of tennis. This second-round defeat would be just a minor roadbump for a 16-year-old girl who has been preparing for the biggest stage ever since her tour debut - less than a year ago. Gauff cemented her position as the top teenager in the women's game despite the blistering heat in her new home. She is also the future. And if the 19-year-old was thrust into an uncomfortable position: elder stateswoman. Arthur Ashe, the American, defended her position and won her first Grand Slam title in over two sets and 75 minutes.

Following Lil Nas X's appearance on YouTube Theatre as the rapper and singer performed hits including "Panini" and "Industry Baby" for Ferrell and thousands of others, the rapper and actress posed from ear to ear. They wore distinctly different outfits for the photo shoot: Lil Nas X simply needed pink athletic shorts and knee pads, while Ferrell wore a green Arthur Ashe sweatshirt, blue shorts, a fedora, and what seemed to be a VIP lanyard.
