Armando Calderón Sol (June 24, 1948 – October 9, 2017) was President of El Salvador from June 1, 1994 to June 1, 1999, representing the Nationalist Republican Alliance (ARENA).

Calderón was the first president elected in El Salvador after twelve years of civil war, and he served in the exclusive primary and secondary school Colegio Externado San José, graduating in 1966.

Calderón received a graduate degree in Jurisprudence and Social Sciences from Universidad Nacional de El Salvador in 1977.

He was a partner, a businessman, and one of the ARENA's foundings (September 1981). He built the Monument to "Hermano Lejano" at the end of the Comalapa Highway and Boulevard from 1988 to 1994. San Salvador's mayor, Salvador Lejano.

This had the unintended result of disrupting small scale farming, causing migration to larger cities (and even the United States) and providing a cheaper labor supply for the maquilas.

He is also responsible for initiating the privatization of ANTEL's business, as well as the electric works CAESS (Compa de Alumbrado Electrico de San Salvador), public hospitals, and pension funds.

At the age of 69, a Houston, Texas hospital developed lung cancer.
