- Antonio Cipriano José María y Francisco de Santa Ana Machado y Ruiz (26 July 1875 – 22 February 1939), known as Antonio Machado, was a Spanish poet and one of the leading figures of the Spanish literary movement known as the Generation of '98.
- His work, initially modernist, evolved towards an intimate form of symbolism with romantic traits, which itself matured towards a style characterised by both an engagement with humanity on one side and an almost Taoist contemplation of existence on the other, a synthesis that according to Machado echoed the most ancient popular wisdom.

When the woman, who is also British, called the ambulance services to report her husband assaulted her, the police were rushed to the couple's expat home in Benalmadena. They arrived at the house to discover her dead in the kitchen-diner with more than 20 stab wounds and her suspected killer lying on their bed. The 80-year-old man, who has not been identified, was arrested at the scene and is now being detained at Benalmadena's National Police station. The perpetrator is thought to be a few years younger, although unconfirmed local reports indicate he was 69.
