Anton Rodgers Life

Anthony "Anton" Rodgers, a British actor and occasional director, died on January 10, 1933 – January 1, 2007) was an English actor and occasional director.

He appeared on stage, film, and sitcoms.

He appeared in many sitcoms, including Fresh Fields (1984–86), its sequel French Fields (ITV, 1989–91), and May to December (BBC, 1989–94).

Personal life

In 1959, Rodgers married Morna Watson, a ballet dancer, in Kensington, and they had a son and a daughter, who later divorced. Elizabeth Garvie, Rodgers' second wife, appeared on stage together and toured giving readings from Jane Austen and Robert Browning's works, among other things. He was a fan of the Angles Theatre, Wisbech, for several years. He was a resident of Whitchurch-on-Thames, Oxfordshire, at the time of his death.

Rodgers died in Reading, Berkshire, aged 74, on December 1, 2007.

Early life and career

Rodgers was born in Ealing, the son of William Robert Rodgers and Leonore Victoria (née Wood). He began his education at Westminster City School. During the war, the family was evacuated to Wisbech, Isle of Ely, where his father worked for Balding and Mansell, printers of ration books, licenses, and passes; Rodgers was sometimes incorrectly reported as having been born in Wisbach. He obtained his education at the Italia Conti Academy and LAMDA later in life. He appeared on stage from the age of 14. He was known for his television appearances, specifically his long-running appearances in the television sitcoms Fresh Fields from 1989 to 1994.

He appeared on stage and film, as well as film. His stage appearances ranged from contemporary comedy and satirical farce to Restoration comedy, Ibsen, Shaw and Wilde, and Peter Nichols. He appeared in films including The Man Who Haunted Himself (1970), Scrooge (1970), The Day of the Jackal (1973), and The Fourth Protocol (1987). Andre, the funny French policeman who assisted Michael Caine in his romantic/financial schemes in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, narrated the children's animated TV series Old Bear Stories and appeared as Andre, the nefarious French policeman who assisted Michael Caine in his philancial schemes.

He narrated programs for the railway video production firm Video 125, which included Cornish Branchlines: A Drivers Eye View.
