Anne Archer (born August 24, 1947) is an American actress.

For the 1987 film Fatal Attraction, she was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress.

Paradise Alley (1978), Patriot Games (1992), Short Cuts (1993), Clear and Present Danger (1994), and Lullaby (2014) are among her other film appearances.

She appeared on stage as Mrs Robinson in the West End production of The Graduate in 2001 and in the title role of The Trial of Jane Fonda at the 2014 Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

Early life

Archer was born in Los Angeles, California, and the daughter of actor John Archer and Marjorie Lord. In 1968, she graduated from Pitzer College in Claremont, California.

In 1969, the archer married William Davis. Thomas William "Tommy" Davis, their only son, was born on August 18, 1972. In 1977, the couple divorced. In 1979, she married Terry Jastrow. Jeffrey Tucker Jastrow was their one son, born on October 18, 1984. She was originally a Christian Scientist, but her husband and she were members of the Church of Scientology since 1975. Harry Volk, the Los Angeles banker and philanthropist, was Archer's stepfather.

She served as a spokeswoman for Applied Scholastics, the literacy training group sponsored by the Church of Scientology between 1982 and 1986. Tommy was the head of the Church of Scientology's Celebrity Centre International in Los Angeles. In 1991, Archer talked about her abortion in the book The Choices We Made: Twenty-Five Women and Men Speak Out Against Abortion.

After graduating from college, the archer began working. In Hemet, California, she appeared as Ramona in "Ramona Pageant" before heading to New York. She appeared in television shows including Hawaii Five-O, The Mod Squad, Ironside, and Little House on the Prairie in the 1970s. In 1973, she was also a regular cast member of ABC sitcom Bob & Carol & Alice. Miss Golden Globe '71 was named Miss Golden Globe.

The Honkers co-starring James Coburn and Lois Nettleton appeared in her first film since 1972. She appeared in Cancel My Reservation (1972), The All American Boy (1973), and Trackdown (1976). She appeared in Lifeguard, a female leading role, alongside Sam Elliott in 1976. She auditioned for Lois Lane in the 1978 superhero film Superman, a role that was eventually granted to Margot Kidder. Chuck Norris (1978), Paradise Alley (1978), and Hero at Large (1980), co-starring John Ritter, continued to appear in feature films, including Good Guys Wear Black (1978) starring Chuck Norris, Paradise Alley (1978) opposite Sylvester Stallone (1978).

Archer appeared in several smaller films and made-for-television films in the early 1980s. She jumped to television in 1983, playing a divorced woman with three children in the short-lived NBC drama series The Family Tree. Cassandra Wilder, a manipulative businesswoman who appeared on CBS prime time soap opera Falcon Crest in 1985, spent one year as the actress. In 1988, she appeared alongside Michael Douglas and Glenn Close in the psychological thriller film Fatal Attraction. The film was a huge box office success, and Archer was nominated for the BAFTA, Golden Globe, and Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress and for her role as Beth Gallagher.

She appeared in three films: Love at Large with Tom Berenger, Narrow Margin, and Eminent Domain in 1990. She appeared alongside Harrison Ford in the 1992 spy drama Patriot Games and its sequel Clear and Present Danger (1994). She appeared in Body of Evidence, a violent thriller in 1993; the film was widely distributed; but the Golden Raspberry Awards Archer received the award for Worst Supporting Actress was nominated on August 14th. She appeared in the Robert Altman ensemble comedy drama Short Cuts later this year, winning the special Golden Globe Award and the Venice Film Festival Special Volpi Cup.

Archer appeared in both Rules of Engagement and the Action film The Art of War in 2000. Man of the House co-star Michael Douglas, Ghosts of Girlfriends Past (2009), and Lullaby (2014). In a West End production of The Graduate in 2001, Archer portrayed Mrs. Robinson at the Gielgud Theatre.

Jane Fonda appeared in the premier production of the play The Trial of Jane Fonda at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2014 and 2016. Throughout the 2000s, he appeared on several television shows, including Boston Public, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and Ghost Whisperer.
