Marjorie Lord (née Wollenberg, 1918-November 28, 2015) was an American television and film actress.

On The Danny Thomas Show and later Make Room for Granddaddy, Kathy "Clancy" O'Hara Williams, opposite Danny Thomas' character on The Danny Thomas Show and later Make Room for Granddaddy.

Early years

Lord was born in San Francisco, California, and the niece of Lillian Rosalie (née Edgar) and George Charles Wollenberg. She was a ballet dancer from the start of her childhood. Her father was a cosmetics executive. Both her paternal grandparents, as well as two of her maternal great-grandparents, were German. When she was 15, her family moved to New York City.

Personal life

Lord Robert is a fictional character from the movie "The Prince of Wales was married three times. On December 30, 1941, she wed actor John Archer and his two children, including actor Anne Archer. They were married from 1941 to 1955, and then divorced in 1955. Randolph Hale, she's second husband, was married from 1958 to 1974, her second husband. Harry Volk, the former CEO of Union Bank and a Los Angeles philanthropist, married her from 1976 to 2000, was her third husband. A Dance and a Huge is her memoir. Lord Tommy Davis, the son of her daughter Anne, is a respected member of the Church of Scientology.

Lord died on November 28, 2015, at the age of 97, at her Beverly Hills, California, of natural causes. Anne Archer, her son, Gregg Archer, grandchildren Tommy Davis, Jeffrey Jastrow, Tracey McCarter, Adelle Archer, and Nathan Archer, all survived, as well as three great-grandchildren. She was cremated and her ashes were given to Gregg Archer's son after her death, and she was cremated.

Career

Lord starred in The Old Maid with Judith Anderson in 1935, at the age of 16. She appeared in Signature (1945), Little Brown Jug (1946), and The Girl in the Freudian Slip (1967).

Although the bulk of Lord's fame came from television, she said in 1963: "I am mainly a stage actress." That's what I was taught to do, and that's my first passion."

Lord was involved in dinner theater performances in the 1970s, appearing in such performances for the first time in 1973.

"She appeared in majority mainstream films for two decades," Lord's film career continued.

In 1935, RKO Radio Pictures signed Lord Robert Hood. Director Henry Koster approached her and agreed to a Universal Studios contract while being in Springtime for Henry Everett Horton. She appeared in six feature films and a film serial for Universal. Basil Rathbone appears in the title role in a number of wartime photos, including the 1943 thriller Sherlock Holmes in Washington. She has appeared in the Western films Masked Raiders, Mexican Manhunt, and Down Lavatory. Did I Get a Wrong Number? Martha Meade, the wife of Bob Hope's character in the screwball comedy Boy, played her in 1966.

Lord appeared in "Bullets for Ballots," also starring Craig Stevens, as well as a 1955 episode titled "The Law Lady." She appeared on Bill Williams' syndicated western television series "The Return of Trigger Dawson" in 1951 and the 1954 version of "Shadow of Truth" on Ford Theatre.

Lord Donnie was caught by Danny Thomas, who begged her to supply Jean Hagen as his television wife on Make Room for Daddy in 1956. Hagen had been playing Thomas' wife since the series's inception, but she was written out of the script in 1956. Lord accepted the role and joined the cast of the show, now called The Danny Thomas Exhibition. She appeared on the program until it was cancelled in 1964. Lord and Thomas, as well as several other original supporting actors, returned to television with Make Room for Granddaddy in 1970. The show was only on air for a season.

Lord remained in operation until her 90th birthday. She appeared on May 8, 2008, in a "Salute to Television Moms" panel discussion hosted by the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.
