Andrés Garca (born May 24, 1941) is a Dominican-born Mexican actor.
He is one of Mexico's most popular and well-known actors, as well as Hispanics in the United States.
He was a scuba diving instructor.
Personal life
Garca is best known for his portrayals of tough guys, what some call the "typical Latin macho." He was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 1995 and went to Atlanta, Georgia, to seek medical attention. He was proclaimed cancer-free.
Garca built a mansion that looks like a castle in 2001.
He appeared on Cristina, the Spanish-language talk show hosted by Cristina Saralegui, in September 2003 to defend entertainers against paparazzi. Garca has been involved in more than 50 projects, including film, theater, soap opera, and photo-opera production.
Garca has been involved romantically, and is still friends, with Mexican model Carmen Campuzano and Puerto Rican singer Zeny from the pop vocal duet Zeny & Zory.
Garca appeared in a reality show named El Principe Azul (Blue Prince), a show geared toward finding his other son, Leonardo. Garc started to flirt with the young women on the show, even going as far as having an on camera kiss with one of the contestants, making his son grow dissatisfied, and eventually, he quit the program. Two previously unknown men were then invited to compete in the competition and try to depose one of the women involved. He appeared in the soap opera El Cuerpo del Deseo, which was broadcast by Telemundo International in 2006. The plot of this telenovela is about transmigration, the transfer of a soul into another body after death, coincident with Garca's views on this topic.
Andrés Garcia's "macho" image came mainly from the Mexican film Pedro Navaja (Peter Blade), in which he plays a Pimp/hustler role, where the majority of the beautiful people work for him on the streets.
Career
Garcá was born and raised in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, and died. He is the son of a Spanish civil war exile who fled to Spain during Rafael Leónidas Trujillo's reign. Andrés Garca La Calle, a well-known Spanish Republican combat aviator, was his father.
Garcia immigrated to Mexico, where he obtained Mexican citizenship and pursued a career in show business. He made a name for himself in Mexico and the rest of Latin America during the 1970s and 1980s, appearing in films, Spanish soap operas, and photo-romance books (a common phenomenon across Latin America).
Garca played in T nadie in 1985 with Luca Mendez and Salvador Pineda. T o nadie became a big success and encouraged Garca to get a number of international offers. In 1986, he accepted an invitation to Puerto Rico, where he appeared in the soap operas Amame, with Johanna Rosaly and Escándalo, as well as Iris Chacón and Charytn. Escándalo's performance was flop, and the number of episodes for that soap opera was cut in half by the television station.
