Taurean Blacque Life

Taucque (born Herbert Middleton, Jr., May 10, 1941) is an American television and stage actor best known for his role as Detective Neal Washington on the television show Hill Street Blues.

He has said he chose the word "Taurean" because his astrological sign is Taurus.

He is also a long-serving national spokesperson for adoption services, having been one of the first single black men in the United States to adopt a child.

Blacque, a born-again Christian, has told reporters that his faith influenced his desire to be involved with adoption.

Early life and career

In Newark, New Jersey, Blacque was born Herbert Middleton Jr. Blacque trained and performed at the New Federal Theatre in New York City, a theater company established to give minorities and women equal access to democracy and women. Blacque started appearing in sitcoms like What's Happening early in his career. Sanford and Son, The Bob Newhart Show, Good Times, and Taxi, and others were cast for permanent roles, including Venus Flytrap on WKRP in Cincinnati, which was eventually portrayed by Tim Reid.

He appeared on the cast of the crime drama Hill Street Blues in 1981 and continued to the show throughout its run, which concluded in 1987. He was nominated in 1982 for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series on a Hill Street, but he lost in the same year to fellow actor Michael Conrad. His theatrical career continued during his time on the show, earning him the NAACP Image Award for Best Actor (Local) in 1985 for his role in Amen Corner. During the first six-week summer run in Beverly Hills, he appeared in the musical Don't Get God Started's male lead.

Blacque, who had been on Hill Street, moved to Atlanta, Georgia, to ensure a safe home for his children. He concentrated on dramatic performance in Atlanta while still making occasional guest appearances on television. Stepping Into Tomorrow with Yolanda King in 1987, and a 1988 revival of Ceremonies in Dark Old Men were two of Blacque's most memorable stage performances. Blacque played a police officer for CBS in Off-Duty, his television career; the show was not picked up by the network. Blacque appeared in Disney's animated film Oliver & Company as the voice of Roscoe. On NBC's Generations, Henry Marshall portrayed him in 1989. In the 1989 science-fiction film DeepStar Six, he appeared in leading roles.
