Ami Argand, a physicist and chemist from Geneva, was a François-Pierre-Argand, a physicist and chemist who lived in Ami Argand (5 July 1750 – October 24 or 19 October 1803).

Early years
Francois-Pierre-Amédée Argand was born in Geneva, Republic of Geneva, and the ninth of ten children. His father, a watchmaker, planned for him to enter the clergy. Nevertheless, he had a natural curiosity in science and became a pupil of the celebrated botanist and meteorologist Horace-Bénédict de Saussure. While in Paris in his late twenties, he published several scientific papers on meteorological topics. He obtained a teaching position in chemistry and developed some suggestions for improving wine distillation into brandy, as well as his brother, who built a large distillery.
