Allie Quigley Career

Early life and career

Quigley was born in Joliet, Illinois, on June 20, 1986. She cites her father, who died when she was seven, as an inspiration for her playing basketball. She began following the WNBA when it debuted in 1997 and aspired to be a champion in league.

She was a WBCA All-American in high school, and she was a member of Joliet Catholic Academy. She appeared in the 2004 WBCA High School All-America Game.

Quigley said that she and her brother, as well as her sister and both of her brothers, received a scholarship-funded Catholic education from third grade to college. Quigley attributed her "too many good memories" she had at a Catholic school, whether it was a smaller environment or more family-oriented. Quigley's matriculation to DePaul University was a continuation of the university's educational system.

College career

Quigley attended DePaul University from 2004 to 2008 and competed for the DePaul Blue Demons women's basketball team for four years. During Quigley's four seasons, the Blue Demons appeared in the NCAA Division I women's basketball tournament, winning the second round in 2005 and the sweet sixteen in 2006.

Professional career

The Seattle Storm drafted Quigley with the 22nd overall pick in the 2008 WNBA draft. Before the season, she was drafted by the Storm and signed as a free agent with the Phoenix Mercury on May 11, 2008. She was a bench player for the Mercury before being cut mid-season in 2009. Diana Taurasi, a Mercury actress, would later say that Quigley gave a good impression on the team, saying, "We saw it right away." She may be able to do things that no one else could do. It was a little harder for her physically; it was early in her career. But she did have a glimpse of what she might do on the courthouse."

Quigley starred for the San Antonio Stars and Indiana Fever in the 2010 season and then signed with the Seattle Storm in 2011. She came off the bench in all three seasons, but never averaging more than 7 minutes per game. She was suspended by the Storm after the 2011 season, but she did not participate in the WNBA in the 2012 season. She has expressed concern about whether her time in the WNBA was over, and she spent the 2012 summer as a basketball camp counselor.

Quigley was signed by the Chicago Sky in March 2013, relocating to the city where she had lived in college. After watching her play in European leagues, Pokey Chatman, the Sky's then-coach and general manager, wanted to sign Quigley. She continued to play as a bench player in the 2013 season, clocking in at 9.4 minutes per game.

Quigley had a record-breaking 24.8 minutes per game, scoring 11.2 points in a career-high 24.8 minutes per game. As a result, she was named the WNBA Sixth Woman of the Year. After losing the Atlanta Dream and the Indiana Fever in the playoffs, the Sky also had a good year overall, appearing in their first WNBA Finals. However, the Phoenix Mercury were swept in the Finals by Phoenix Mercury. In the playoffs, Quigley averaged 25.7 minutes and 14.2 points per game.

Quigley re-signed a multi-year deal with the Sky on February 23, 2015. Quigley was named WNBA Sixth Woman of the Year for the second time this season. The Sky set a 21-13 record, but in the conference finals, they were defeated by Indiana Fever.

Quigley was crowned a WNBA All-Star for the first time in her career in 2017, and she made her debut for the Sky in 2017. With 32.3 minutes and 16.4 points per game, she set career records. She was named an All-Star again in 2018 and won back-to-back Three-Point Contests in 2017 and 2018. Her 29 points in 2018 set an all-time record for the Three-Point Contest in both the NBA and the WNBA.

In February 2019, she signed a one-year deal with the Sky, making her the team's highest-paid player for the 2019 season. For the first time this season, she appeared in all 34 games for the first time, scoring 13.8 points per game and making a league-best 80 three-pointers. She was also selected for the third year in a row.

Quigley re-signed with the Sky in 2020. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 season was postponed and reduced to 22 games in a bubble. In all 22 games, Quigley participated and started, but the Sky had placed 12-10 with the number 6 seed, but the Connecticut Sun had defeated them in the first round elimination game.

Quigley appeared in the Sky's 2021 season opener on May 15, before being sidelined for the remainder of the month due to a hamstring injury. She came off the bench early in the season but returned to the starting lineup following the mid-season Olympic break. She was the team's second-leading scorer during the Sky's playoff run. She assisted the Sky win the 2021 WNBA Finals by scoring a team-high 26 points in the series-clinching Game 4.

For the first time in her overseas career, Quigley competed with Mersin in the Turkish Super League in 2008.

Quigley's return to Europe in 2009-2010, this time she appeared for Pécs 2010, Hungary's 2010. She was the Hungarian champion and Hungarian Cup champion, as well as a participant in the EuroLeague Women. Quigley was still the player of Pécs in the 2011-12 season, but the squad was unable to participate in the Euroleague due to financial constraints, so the team only competed in the Hungarian Championships. In the national championship, the team finished third. In the regular season, Quigley averaged 16.68 points and 17.50 in the play-offs. Quigley earned citizenship in Hungary and made his debut against Slovakia in the Hungarian national team at the end of the season. She competed in further preparations and then gained a spot in the EuroBasket Women 2013 qualification, eventually placing herself in the Hungarian roster.

Fenerbahçe announced her transfer to the club on July 13, 2015.

After the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, she remained in February 2022, a Russian Women's Basketball Premier League member of UMMC Ekaterinburg.
