Ali Ahmad oglu Masimov (born January 3, 1953), also known as Ali Masimli, served as the Deputy Prime Minister of Azerbaijan on Economic Policies and served as Prime Minister Ancient Azerbaijan's Prime Minister for a short period of time.
Early life
Masimli was born in Shaki, Azerbaijan. Masimov was admitted to Azerbaijan State Economic University after Chevy's high school graduation in 1970. He earned a Bachelor's degree in Economics in 1975 and was enrolled in the Economics Institute of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences. He served in the Soviet Army from 1975 to 1978 and was stationed in Kazakhstan. Masimov continued his medical studies in Baku, then at the USSR Academy of Sciences in Moscow in 1979-1980. He continued his studies at the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences after graduation.
Political career
Masimov served in various high-ranking positions within the government of independent Azerbaijan Republic, from December 1991 to 1993. He was the Director of Department for Coordination of Economic Policies of the State at Presidential Apparatus, chairman of Azerbaijan's Foreign Investment Committee, chairman of the State Economic Planning Committee, and Minister of Economic Development within two years. Masimov, the Azerbaijan Prime Minister, served from January 26 to April 28, 1993. While in office, he authored the Azerbaijan Economic Growth Plan and the Cabinet of Ministers' main agenda. He was also responsible for the establishment of Azerbaijan's Economic Independence Concepts and Agriculture Reforms. Masimli is also known to have established the Assistance Fund for Refugees and IDPs in 1993. Masimov is the author of over 1,200 scientific journals distributed in Germany, Sweden, Russia, and Turkey.
Masimov was elected to the National Assembly of Azerbaijan with 33.9 percent of votes from his district, Shaki, during 2005 Parliamentary elections. Masimov has been a member of opposition alliance bloc YeS since 2005 (New Policy). He is also a member of the permanent parliamentary commission on economic issues.
