Alex Hirsch Life

Alexander Robert Hirsch (born June 18, 1985) is an American writer, animator, and voice actor.

He is the creator of the Disney Channel series Gravity Falls, for which he provided the voices of Grunkle Stan, Soos, and Bill Cipher, among other things.

He has also been named BAFTA and Annie Awards for the series.

Hirsch co-authored Gravity Falls: Journal 3 in 2016, which appeared on The New York Times Best Seller list for over a year.

Early life and education

On June 18, 1985, Hirsch was born in Piedmont, California. Ariel has a twin brother. His father, who was raised agnostic, celebrates Christmas and Hanukkah. Hirsch and his twin sister, who is nine years old at the time, will remain with their great-aunt (or "graunt") Lois at her cabin in the woods during the summer. Hirsch's inspiration for Gravity Falls came from these experiences later. He graduated from Piedmont High School as a freshman and appeared on the Late Show with David Letterman in 2002.

Hirsch continued to attend the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts), where he made a number of projects and short films, including Off The Wall, which combined animation and live action, and "Cuddle Bee Hugs N'Such" with Adrian Molina, which was selected by Nicktoons Network for their original series Shorts in a Bunch. He spent the summer of 2006 in Portland, Oregon, on a Laika-scrapped animated film. In 2007, he graduated from the University.

Personal life

Hirsch's personal experience and his friendship with his own twin sister, Ariel Hirsch, influenced Gravity Falls' summer vacations. Many of his real-life tales in the show included living in Piedmont and trick-or-treating with his sister as youth. One of Gravity Falls' main characters, Dipper Pines, is based on Hirsch's memory of being a boy. When Hirsch was a child of Dipper, he tried to instill in himself backward speech by reversing recordings of his own voice. Hirsch referred to himself as "the neurotic boy" who would carry 16 disposable cameras with him wherever he went. Mabel Pines' character was influenced by Ariel. Ariel "actually did wear wacky jackets and have a different bizarre crush every week," in a similar fashion to Mabel, according to Hirsch. Mabel gets a pet pig in the series, just like Ariel had always wanted when she was a child. Grunkle Stan's grandfather Stan, who, according to Hirsch, "was a guy that told tall tales and would often mess with us to get a rise out of us."

Hirsch was in a relationship with The Owl House creator Dana Terrace from 2015 to about April 2022. Hirsch and Terrace also hosted numerous charity live streams together, including Planned Parenthood, The American Civil Liberties Union, The Southern Poverty Defence Council, The Young Lawyers Union (with Ninja Sex and Arin Hanson), Direct Relief (with Rebecca Sugar and Ian Jones-Quartey), and RAICES (with Daron Nefcy and Eden Sher). These activities took in over $270,000 as of 2018.

Hirsch lauded The Owl House for its nonheterosexual appearances in August 2020, claiming that he had been forbidden from incorporating any specific nonheterosexual elements into Gravity Falls.

Hirsch prank-called Rudy Giuliani's voter fraud hotline, which was initiated by the Donald Trump campaign, by using the voices of several Gravity Falls characters to alert Hamburglar-esque ballot theft.
